They are getting arrested and not being able to be prosecuted because the crime lab isn't accredited.
Sorry, no. This is one of the many, many excuses that the prosecutors made, but if you see what they actually do they're just _extremely_ soft on crime. Do you remember this story? A guy just randomly tried to murder a pub owner in front of his 4 your old son, pulling a gun out and saying "Sit down, white boy. I’m going to end you." The owner had to knock the gun out of the guys hand and throw him out of the restaurant: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/armed-man-who-attacked-dc-pub-owner-in-front-of-4-year-old-boy-offered-plea-deal-to-victims-dismay/3382018/ The whole thing was caught on camera. The owner said he wanted it to go to trial and wanted to testify. But no, the prosecutors offered the attempted-murderer a plea deal: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/pub-owner-disturbed-by-absurd-decisions-in-case-of-man-who-pulled-gun-and-punched-him/3385225/ So how many years did he get for trying to murder someone? Oh, hah, did I say years. Wait, this is D.C. The prosecutor only asked for 18 months. The judge decided to give him only 8 months: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/doordash-driver-gets-8-months-for-assault-on-dc-restaurant-owner-who-was-attacked-in-front-of-young-son/3419443/ People can try to make all the excuses they want. Even with a slam dunk case, with video evidence and a witness that's begging to testify, the prosecutors and judges do what they can to make sure would be murderers are back on the streets in just a few months.
You are off the rails dude. Seriously. It was assault and unregistered weapon and he has no priors. Not that it was egregious but this is not the case I would pull as an example of soft on crime. He gets 8 months in jail. And will likely never be able to work anywhere else. Which btw will increase his odds of reoffending. I am not saying don't jail people- I actually want more emphasis on all crimes being followed through, like rape- ever seen how many rape kits are backlogged? but I think you are misguided in what thinking that the results will somehow be transformative for the population. Its either such a large percentage of the population is commiting crimes that removing all of them would be completely disruptive and cost heavy OR there are repeat offenders and organized crime at work. Literally any time crime, especially violent crime, increases there is organized crime behind it. Any city. Any time period but keep thinking that cutting off the soldiers/minions will be a drop in the bucket. Organized crime works because it gets young kids who are impoverished and without much chance for social/economic mobility opportunity for funds and community. Until we address the lack of those two for adolescents, teens, and young adults it's just the taxpayer paying for people in jail who not only donT economicallh contribute but are also a drain on resources provided by those who contribute.
it was in front of a FOUR YEAR OLD you absolute cretin. 8 months and this maniac is back on the streets? Come on.
