I mean yes, he is appointed by Biden, and obviously the memo these appointees are getting in the last few years are to push a progressive criminal justice reform agenda in the wake of George Floyd. But also yes Fox News is a right wing mouthpiece and are running this sorry probably to sent democrats on crime. So yes everyone is right. It’s sad that crime is rising. It’s sad that progressive criminal justice policies seem to let criminals know they have a free pass because all they’ll get is restorative justice. It’s sad that looking up violent criminals works better. Yeah I get we need to attack the root causes of poverty and fund wrap around services and all that sht, but we also neee to be strict on crime. |
| A coming ballot initiative that would allow independent voters to vote in primaries would help. That would help break the grip the far left has on city council. |
I mean look at his 4 pillars: “These conversations have formed the foundation of the four core pillars that will guide the work of the Office of Attorney General under my leadership: Prioritizing public safety and hopeful kids Promoting equity Standing up for democratic values Building on the institutional excellence of the Office of Attorney General” https://medium.com/@dcattorneygeneral/attorney-general-schwalbs-four-pillars-prioritizing-public-safety-and-hopeful-kids-65d80af1d43d What does this tell you of his views on prosecution? |
The emphasis of the coverage is the issue. No one said these aren’t important issues, they’re just really not the most urgent ones. So the wall-to-wall coverage like they’re crises or something is what’s objectionable. |
You forgot to list the Mayor - the city's Chief Executive, who runs the Police Department and sets policies in dozens of agencies - among those who have failed in their attempts to reduce crime. Letting our elected leaders off the hook for their failures is one of the reasons why we have this problem. |
Yeah, tell that to all the victims. |
Independent voters already can vote in party primaries, if they register with a party. Or did you mean "voters who aren't registered with the party in the party primary"? |
Too bad you can’t control what other people this is a crisis. |
Hard to think of another issue DC cares more about. Bowsers deputy told the journal it’s the no. 1 issue in the city right now. She’s right. |
You are right, DEI funding and programs are more urgent. As is the funding and building of bike lanes - urgent!!! Crime - meh. It’s okay kids are having their shoes stolen in a public library. Not urgent! |

Why are people so hell bent on painting
the District in such a negative light? What is to be gained? |
Rate started to tick up in 2017, end of Obama's term and well before Floyd. |
What is to be gained by not confronting the rising crime head on? |
Oh yeah if one ward 3 white dude on a bike gets hit on Connecticut avenue we have to spend billions of dollars completely reworking our transportation system and talk about it endlessly. But if murders are up 40 percent, robberies are up 70 percent, car thefts have more than doubled, teenagers are looting drug stores — it’s oh crime is not that big of deal, why are you obsessed? |
There are a ton of threads bashing DC. What's the end game? |
