Sorry, no. This is one of the many, many excuses that the prosecutors made, but if you see what they actually do they're just _extremely_ soft on crime.

Do you remember this story? A guy just randomly tried to murder a pub owner in front of his 4 your old son, pulling a gun out and saying "Sit down, white boy. I’m going to end you." The owner had to knock the gun out of the guys hand and throw him out of the restaurant:

The whole thing was caught on camera. The owner said he wanted it to go to trial and wanted to testify. But no, the prosecutors offered the attempted-murderer a plea deal:

So how many years did he get for trying to murder someone? Oh, hah, did I say years. Wait, this is D.C. The prosecutor only asked for 18 months. The judge decided to give him only 8 months:

People can try to make all the excuses they want. Even with a slam dunk case, with video evidence and a witness that's begging to testify, the prosecutors and judges do what they can to make sure would be murderers are back on the streets in just a few months.[/quote]
