Isn’t it possible to be denied in one major but accepted into another?
Five years ago my nephew was rejected from engineering but admitted to the school itself.

They’ve changed it.
There’s much to commend at VT, but dismissing ED (not EA) high stats in state kids hurts. EA is not commitment, so yield protection at least makes more sense. Only applying to one major stinks.

No. I read it that 8690 applicants were notified they were put on the waitlist. Of those 8000+ students, 4924 decided they wanted to go on the waitlist. The other almost 4000 applicants decided to not be put on the waitlist. Only 86 were ultimately offered a spot. How many enrolled is unknown.

Did something drastic and devastating happen to your financial situation between November and now? If your financial situation is basically the same as it was 3 months ago, and you already knew she wouldn't go even if offered a spot, why apply?

Thanks - I would have assumed that also but then I don't understand where the numbers from the Fall Waitlist FAQ website come from. It states: "What is Virginia Tech's history of selecting students from the waitlist?....In 2021, we were able to offer 3,286 applicants from the waitlist." This 3,286 is not listed in the Common Data Set. What does the 3,286 refer to?
