| No one (except the one pp's DD's URM bf) admitted below 4.0? (lowest I've seen accepted so far is 4.2) |
Unfortunately, yes. Congratulations to those accepted. I loved my time as a student at Tech and hoped my kid would get in. It’s so much harder now than it used to be. |
| Please share stats! (VT is DS '24 top choice) |
Congratulations! I have a DC in the NSFA major. Absolutely loving it! |
| No honors college notifications? |
Rejected. 1380 SAT, 3.5 GPA mostly honors and a few AP’s. Applied as undecided |
They’ve changed it. There’s much to commend at VT, but dismissing ED (not EA) high stats in state kids hurts. EA is not commitment, so yield protection at least makes more sense. Only applying to one major stinks. |
This makes it sound like most years VaTech ultimately offered admission to hundreds/thousands of students on the waitlist? That seems much higher than most schools? Below is the information from the 2020-21 Common Data Set. Combined with the information on the website above, does this establish that 3,286 of 4,924 were offered admission but only 86 accepted (presumably because by July most had made other plans)? Am I missing something? Number of qualified applicants offered a place on the waiting list: 8,690 Number accepting a place on the waiting list: 4924 Number of wait-listed students admitted: 86 |
The website indicates that Early Decision applicants can be deferred to Early Action, but that "Early Decision and Early Action applicants are not rolled over to Regular Decision." |
No. I read it that 8690 applicants were notified they were put on the waitlist. Of those 8000+ students, 4924 decided they wanted to go on the waitlist. The other almost 4000 applicants decided to not be put on the waitlist. Only 86 were ultimately offered a spot. How many enrolled is unknown. |
Not OP, but why not. She didn't know if she'd get into UMD or any other school she applied to. |

Accepted.
4.2 Weighted. 1320 SAT. OOS. Biotech Engineering. White female with a medical condition that she wants to research. One parent alumni and one sister current student. |
Thanks - I would have assumed that also but then I don't understand where the numbers from the Fall Waitlist FAQ website come from. It states: "What is Virginia Tech's history of selecting students from the waitlist?....In 2021, we were able to offer 3,286 applicants from the waitlist." This 3,286 is not listed in the Common Data Set. What does the 3,286 refer to? |
Congrats |
| DC waitlisted. 4.2, 7 APs, 1400 SAT, Political Science major - I’m really bummed. I was hoping they’d go to Tech. |
