Can someone explain why Miami turned red?

Typically people who choose to move to diverse cities don't have regressive politics. Why is Miami different or why is these Whites and Latino voters different?
Cubans and many Hispanic cultures are very conservative socially. They tend not to be politically active and not to vote in large numbers, but Cubans are the exception to that. And younger Hispanic Americans are more likely to vote than their parents.

+1.

Many of my Hispanic friends / classmates/ colleagues ( Bolivians, Mexicans and Puerto Ricans)are ' anti- abortion' rights and anti LGBTQ. They always voted Republican before Trump primarily for this reason.

Some hated Trump so much that they refused to vote for either party. Others pinched their noses and voted for him.

That doesn’t seem surprising, many republicans are anti-abortion but then take their daughters to a clinic anyway. Hypocrites.

Then of course there’s the anti-LGBTQ comment. Plenty of people are bigots. People dont choose to be gay or trans. They’re born that way. Having people for being born different is a very common Republican thing too.

Oh Lord, what a dumb post.

Anti-abortion = respecting everyone's right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Anti-LGBTGWhatever = pro-science and pro evidence-based medicine.

DP.. you don't get it. It's not about science. It's about religion and culture.

-former R who used to support "pro-life", when in actuality, it's about "punish them whores"

What you say when you don’t understand the meaning of “science” or “evidence.” Such as abortion being necessary in a multitude of medical circumstances to save the life of the mother.

The people I know who came from Communist countries, they don't want to live under a government where they feel heavily controlled. And that's what they see in the Democrat platform with more government involvement - with their social agendas and telling people this is how you should think and act.

Nothing to do with "socialism is Dems GOP spewing"

They are not stupid.

Abortion.

That said the younger Cubans are figuring it out. In another election cycle we will see a turn to Dems.

You refuse to understand that we don’t care about party. We care about issues. Democrats have turned away from the issues that won over Latinos and immigrants and you will keep losing us until you find your way back.

This predatory tactic where you try to cut the younger generation off from the older generation to indoctrinate them is not going to work on Latinos. Our families are too strong. I’m 32 years old and I’ve been voting Republican for 6 years now. I flirted with Democrats when I was in college, but by the time I left corporate America after 8 years, I was voting Republican. At the end of the day, I want to raise a family, start a business, and keep my cultural ties. White liberals don’t have anything to offer me.

You’re just parroting talking points.

I’m sure you think your positions are so original.

Better than whatever your right wing masters are telling you to think.

LOL you seriously aren't claiming that Democrats do not enforce thought control?

Like what?

OK....what do you think would happen to a Democrat politician or even a high schooler in a Democrat-leaning jurisdiction who would say:

"Most trans kids grow out of this phase and grow up comfortable with their birth gender. There should be no medically assisted transition for anyone under 18, and only very cautious transition after that. Social transition for the under 18 is not recommended either. Most kids claiming to be trans turn out not to be."

Is there any evidence that’s true?

Yes. It is the just-released UK NHS guidance after many years of unquestioned affirmation.

That’s not really what the new guidelines state. They don’t have enough gender clinics in the UK and a 1-year waitlist. People are buying puberty blockers off the internet (which is obviously bad), and they want more “whole child” oversight. They are not saying there shouldn’t be support and care for kids dealing with gender dysphoria

the irony is that Dem government is more generous with giving asylum these days than Rs. But, I guess since they are already here they don't care about other people who need asylum. I got mine; screw you. Seems to be the R motto.

BS.

What every EU country is saying is this: there is NO evidence to support trans surgeries among minors. Even blockers are under deep review given serious side effects.

Only in the US does the supposed "pro-science" party support clearly anti-science positions.

FL is lucky to have a rational Governor well-aligned with EU policies.

How so? Other than saying to not be a bigoted di-- to your fellow citizen, which isn't a platform, how are you being told to think (really? They're telling you what to think???) and act? Just bc you don't like what you hear, or are defensive it hits a bit too close to home, isn't "telling you you to think or act."

and this here is why we are so far apart in this country. Where is the middle ground when religion is on one side and science the other?

Progressives are way out there compared to the rest of the world on these social issues and are quick to jump down the throats of anyone who disagrees. There is very little "agree to disagree." It's see things my way or I am going to tar and feather you.

In some ways it feels like McCarthyism, but instead of looking for Communists, progressives are hunting down bigots and white supremacists as they define it.

That’s a lie. Most of us consider ourselves neither. We consider ourselves Brazilian, Cuban, Peruvian etc. Americans don’t understand what it is to have a strong CULTURAL and NATIONAL identity. Everything is race, race, race here. Race isn’t anything to base identity on where we come from because no one is one race. My mom looks like Soledad O’Brien, my Dad looks like ARod and my siblings and I range from “white” looking to Indio-looking and one of us is a brown-skinned mulatta in looks. What is our race? Should my sister vote with African Americans and my brother vote with white southerners? The question of race has no meaning. We vote or culture. Strong values, hard work, entrepreneurship, family first and last.

NP. And yet, income and opportunities are based on the complexion of your skin in those countries. The lighter the complexion, the greater the income and wealth. So yes, many if not most do consider themselves white followed by mestizo t

On a visit to Cuba many years ago, the darker Cubans were not allowed to be in front-facing tourism positions. The lighter, whiter Cubans were the waitresses interacting with the tourist. It was better to be whitish and identify as such than not. The darker Cubans were in the back cooking and washing the dishes. It was noticed throughout my travel. As a stupid, dumb, naive, college freshman at FSU, I met my first Cuban, blind and blue-eyes. Stupid me said something like, “wow, I thought you guys were Hispanic, not white.” His response was, “I am both white and Hispanic.” True that. Giselle Bundshen identifies as as white, Brazilian woman. So YMMV in your family, but in my long-life, almost all the white identifying Hispanics, identify as white while also identifying their background ethnicity.
