The rate of identical twins with ART is much higher than natural conception. You never know with people if they aren't open about treatment.

This was my sister’s MIL and my SIL’s grandmother so we definitely know they didn’t have fertility treatments since none existed at the time.

Ok, but its still statistically very rare, your two anecdotes doesn't change anything.

So why can’t Hilary Swank be one of these cases?

Honestly? She’s too thin. Surprise pregnancies at that age don’t happen to super skinny women. They just don’t.

You’re wrong, again.

Why don't you tell us how likely it is to conceive naturally at 48 with twins? What are the odds?

It’s creepy and ungodly. And then we have sad stories shoved down our throat when it goes badly, eg Jimmy Kimmel, Markle, Christy Tiefan.

Oof. Blessed be the fruit, weirdo.

Alec Baldwin just had his 8th child at what, 65? His wife used a surrogate so the fourth baby boy she was pregnant with would have the “twin” sister baby girl she was hoping for. Who cares if Hillary swank is pregnant at 48? Much weirder stuff out there.

Based on her filmography it looks like she’s worked pretty consistently throughout her career. She was never known as a box office draw and wasn’t one to be on the cover of magazines/tabloids. Given Hollywood’s ageism against women, her resume’s not bad at all.

I'm with PP. Her filmography does not match that of a two-time winner of the Best Actress Oscar. She's the only one in this generation to have won that award twice and it puts her in some very esteemed company (Elizabeth Taylor, Bette Davis, Vivian Leigh, Jane Fonda, Sally Field, even Meryl Streep (although she got a 3rd Oscar in the Best Supporting category as well)). Hilary Swank won her second Oscar in 2004. Where has she been since then? It looks like she started producing her own films, most of which sound terrible and hover around 20%-40% on Rotten Tomatoes. Her Netflix show was canceled after one season. What gives?

Well, she’s not very good looking. I mean, she’s fine for a mom at school pickup but she’s not Hollywood pretty. So that cuts her out of like 90% of casting for female roles. Geez, even that psycho killer role went to gorgeous Charlize Theron who had o make herself ugly for it. She may actually do better in middle age or older because there are more “character” actor jobs for older women. I have a relative that was really unattractive who had good success as a old lady actress because that cast her as that crazy old lady character. I think she was just happy to work and had fun with it. There’s lots of roles like that men that are sort of odd looking but really not much for women.

It’s like you’re posting from the 16th century. She can’t get pregnant — she doesn’t have the birthing hips for it!

I was one of those surprise mid 40s babies and my mom weighed 90 pounds soaking wet. Unless you are thin due to malnutrition, weight has nothing to do with fertility. There is however a genetic component to fertility at advanced age. It runs in my family so I had my tubes tied at 40.

I had my daughter at 49 using ART with donor embryo. You all have no idea what could possibly be going on with others. Not everyone has the same life experiences - mine led me to 12 years of ART before having my child who is loved, adjusted and happy.

Mid 40s and 48 are really different though.

All fertility doctors know that the very skinny women have a harder time conceiving and carrying to term. It’s accepted as fact in the industry. Come on.

I also think it is irresponsible as well as insensitive when celebrities try to portray their pregnancies as natural.

To all the people out there TTC - it elicits a false hope.

Celebrities are ALWAYS lying when it comes to medical stuff like pregnancy or plastic surgery.

Considering how us fans put them in a place of pure privilege > you would think we deserve more in return.

That’s her own weird lens, not someone else’s responsibility.

If she's in her 40s the gig is up anyway. The misinformation isn't going to hurt her at this point.

This. It's no fluke of nature.

And, it's actually harmful to perpetuate a "miracle" if it's anything but.

Sure, if you're talking about like Giuliana Rancic who admits to eating about 900 calories a day and looks like a bobblehead. Clearly in starvation mode and refused to gain 10 lbs to have a better chance at having a baby.

Hillary isn't that thin, I wouldn't call her "super skinny." She does look pretty athletic.

It’s not her story to tell to the rest of the world. If she used donor eggs it’s her children’s story. She owes the world nothing. It doesn’t matter if she’s a celebrity.

You sound hysterical. Put down the glass.

+1000. I completely get not wanting to reveal exactly how you got pregnant - celebrities don't owe that to anyone. But what I do find irksome is perpetuating the myth that a woman in her late 40s would spontaneously get pregnant with healthy twins. We all know the statistics on this (i.e. < 5% at best). The reality is that she used donor eggs/embryo. Her own frozen eggs is possible but given that she's been married for four years already - seems unlikely that this pregnancy is a result of her own frozen eggs. This is why I really appreciated Marcia Cross when she got pregnant with twins at 44 a number of years ago - she didn't outright state she used donor eggs but she did state that that is how most women her age get pregnant.
