Will Smith’s statement on Oscars incident

In the 20+ years that he has been in the public eye, he has walked the line. I’s like to thing that this one moment in his life does not define who he is. Again grace! I am so happy that my mistakes, were not done on TV for the world to see.

If Mike Tyson can recover after biting off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear, then so can Mr. Smith.

DAMN GIRL! You seem to know pretty well that Duane K. Martin and his ex, Tisha, have shown Mr. Smith (LOL for life, sweetie) rather a lot of grace.

Mike Tyson never pretended he didn’t bite the ear, or that he did so for capital H Honor.

The poster noting that Jada is walking the line (you’re so cute PP) between kind of truth and total fat lie with her alopecia complaint. I don’t think she suffers from true, diagnosed alopecia. I think she has had some traction loss that she’s pissed about and decided she was a noble autoimmune disease sufferer instead of a middle-aged woman facing the consequences of some beauty choices.

I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.

I am a work in progress.

Sincerely,

Will
So that part right there means the whole thing is insincere?

Yes. He tried to slide in an excuse. No, just no.

Thank you. We aren’t defined by our worst moment in life or shouldn’t be. You’re the kind of person I could be friends with, not these other ‘perfect’ people on here.

No, we are not defined by pur worst moments; but we should make sincere and immediate amends. Not just PR apologies.
His apology the day after it happened was sincere. Also, we have no idea what he said to Chris Rock privately.

After he received his Oscar and a standing ovation. Never mind that the other winners couldn't get the response they deserved for their hard work and efforts. Months later with a 35+ million paycheck in the works...needed to say a little more...
Did you actually read his apologies? He literally said he apologizes to the entire academy, everyone that was there, the producers and everyone around the world. He apologized to Chris's mother, he apologized for the shame he brought to his family, he apologized to everyone that worked with him on King Richard. He said he understands that the damage to his relationship with Chris' brother is permanently damaged. I'm beginning to think some of you all didn't even bother to really read and listen to what he said. I get it if you think what he did is unforgivable, but some of you guys are saying he should have said blah blah blah, when he actually did say blah blah blah.

The fact that he didn’t do a sincere apology for months speaks to the kind of person he is…

I think the first apology seemed more sincere than the newer one which seems attached to promo and was more like an interview.

He DOES need the public's forgiveness if he wants the public to continue to pay to see his movies. The faux interview setting was weird, and his speech seemed stilted. It was not a success in my opinion.

I disagree, and I think his movie sales are going to be just fine. I don't think he was ever "canceled" like some posters are claiming.

I think you're right. In general, people excuse and condone violent behavior if it's a person or cause they like.

Yes this, but also people believe that he is sorry. I know plenty of people who hated what he did but aren't going to demonize or cancel him; they applauded his public apology. You will also find plenty of this in his IG comment. Sure, he lost some fans and will lose some accolades but overall his career wont suffer.

I have scarring alopecia and while I didn't know about Jada until that night, it was easy to look up posts that she had made earlier about her hair loss. While she doesn't seem to have total hair loss, alopecia areata is still difficult to deal with.

That doesn't have anything to do with Will Smith. However she deals with hair loss, or does not deal with it, his behavior at the Oscars is his behavior.

I have alopecia too and that’s why I am upset. Jada Smith does not have alopecia. She has a face lift scar that she didn’t want anyone speculating about so she fabricated the alopecia story.

What's your support for that?

It's not true; it's just a theory that some people believe. Kind of like how some people believe Beyonce and Jay Z are part of the Illuminati. lol

I don't think it was that big a deal. Shocking yes, but meh. I'll still watch all his movies. He seems like a good guy who was defending his wife

He seems like a dimwit who was driven out of his gourd by his crazy wife. Since his public persona is/was a "good guy", this was a big deal.

We'll see how this new movie does. Maybe it'll do fine. Maybe it won't.

Maybe, it won't be the first time a man has "lost it" defending his wife. Does anyone remember when Method Man went TF off about Wendy Williams revealing to the public that his wife had cancer?

Jada was behind this “apology” because it’s getting in her way:

Per Yahoo Entertainment:

“Meanwhile Us Weekly suggested that Jada Pinkett Smith was a driving force behind the video. She, of course, was the target of Rock's G.I. Jane joke on Oscars night, sparking Smith to storm the stage to slap and curse out an unsuspecting Rock who reportedly didn't know she had alopecia.

Smith "never wanted to" publicly apologize, that outlet claimed, but Pinkett Smith has "been pushing Will to apologize because it has become this really dark cloud over her Red Table Talk series" due to people looking for "any mention of that moment" on her show. Smith's team "hoped that the controversy would die down, but it just hasn't" and it had become "impossible for him to move forward successfully unless he [addressed it]," that insider claimed.”
