DAMN! Y’all need to chill! He doesn’t need YOUR forgiveness! What did he do to YOU? He assaulted Chris Rock, not you! Don’t get me wrong, I was shocked and disappointed by a lot of his actions that night. But DAMN, show him some grace!

In the 20+ years that he has been in the public eye, he has walked the line. I’s like to thing that this one moment in his life does not define who he is. Again grace! I am so happy that my mistakes, were not done on TV for the world to see.

If Mike Tyson can recover after biting off a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear, then so can Mr. Smith.

He never said "I'm sorry Chris for hitting you."

He was more distanced, saying he apologized for his behavior. His "mistake."

And he gave away why. He said he won't be made to feel ashamed, and he won't be made to feel like a piece of sh--.

But to really own it, he should feel ashamed and like sh--.

Own it. Admit it. Say Chris, I am so sorry I was a piece of sh--. I'm sorry, I was wrong. Then you can set yourself free. It is what it is.

I do not understand the purpose of the public video. However, Chris Rock reaction is perfect. He simply says, ”I don’t want to talk about it.” Clearly, Chris had advice from his PR people.

Apparently he does. That's why he made a public video.

And yes, he did do something to us. We were all shocked, and he cheapened the awards ceremony and made the world feel like a more violent and less-safe place even among colleagues -- as if the world needs that now. Thanks for nothing, Will Smith. Yes, he will go down in history as a shocking brute lacking self control, just like Mike Tyson.

+1 "sorry, not sorry" doesn't cut it.

I don't think you want to use Mike Tyson as an analogy. Due to his life experiences,, career, and behaviors, most people don't expect much better from him. That's what's so shocking about Will's behavior. We'd expected more from him. Seems we were wrong

Chris probably didn’t need advice. He’s a really smart guy.
If and when he wants to forgive Smith, it will likely be in private.
He doesn’t owe Smith anything.

I’ve cancelled this idiot.

He can be nominated and win. He just can't attend the awards or be a member of the nominating and selecting committe.

This would have been notable 24 or 48 hours after the incident.

He canceled himself, and this public non apology is not going to un-cancel him.

Since he reached out to Chris already privately I think the public video was for optics.

Yes, his statement is not an apology. His choice of words at this time show how truly privileged and coddled this star is.
