Did you circumcise?

DH still said no to circumcision for our 3 boys (who are now late teens, early 20s).

Wow. That is insane.

Medical professionals can be really ignorant sometimes.

My boys are 8 and 6 and yes, we did. I left the decision up to DH.

We did wait a few weeks and then had them done by a pediatric surgeon (who is also a mohel). Very straightforward, both times, very quick healing.

Damn lots of penises. Tell us more please

Haha
The thing is I know how uncircumcised penises look like in reality ( not just Google photos) so I wanted my son to be circumcised and I am glad i did it when he was a baby.

“I didn’t want my son to have a penis that I wouldn’t want to have sex with”

Do not be angry. Not everyone has an uncircumcised penis like your son.

Some of these responses are nauseating.

Can you imagine if a man said “I don’t like the way large hanging labia look so my daughter is going to have labiaplasty—and no, we’re not going to ask her first”

You are very invested in this thread. Maybe it is time to have a break?

A lot of Jew doctors push this. Are you ignorant?

"Jew doctors"? WTF?

It's fcked up for doctors - of any religion - to pressure a family into an unnecessary, painful procedure.

I don’t care much either way but DH (who is circumcised, non religious) said it was basically mandatory and went on about how much effort it is to keep an uncircumcised penis properly cleaned, no little boy would do it correctly, UTI’s etc. so, our sons are circumcised.

We did but I wouldn't do it again.

Where exactly did he get his information about uncircumcised penises? He sounds misinformed.

There is a lot manipulation on this thread by the pro-circumcisers. The writing style is very telling.

It's less "I think uncirc'd penises are gross" and more "most women (and teenage girls) think uncirc'd penises are gross, and I don't want my son to ever have to worry about getting rejected or laughed at because of a decision I made." The fact that I personally think uncircumcised penises are gross is completely irrelevant.

Yes, I know in Europe, or American neighborhoods with large Latino populations, most women don't think foreskin is gross, but considering my son is going to Langley, that's absolutely something I considered.

You have a cynical view of women if you think they're all so shallow. What if your son was born with big ear or a big nose? Would you send him to a plastic surgeon?

My mom had my brother's ears pinned back when he was a teen. Heck, even Brad Pitt had his ears pinned back (check out the pics on line from his teen years. before he had them done and before he dyed his hair blonde and whitened his teeth.) Several Jewish girls in my high school had their noses done in the summer between 11th and 12th grade.

Our bodies, our freedoms. Have you noticed all the high school kids with tattoo these days? I hate them but I will not clutch my pearls.

Our 2 boys are circumcised. Looks better and normal. I had one boyfriend early on who was not and it was gross.

“Looks better and normal.”

“Better” is in the eye of the beholder. “Normal” it ain’t.

Honestly, I’ve just asked him and he says, "Common sense," According to him now there’s some sort of daily "pull back, wash carefully underneath" routine. If that’s true, I do understand why he wouldn’t expect a young boy to diligently do that every day. We had trouble just getting our sons to use soap for more than 2 seconds by themselves when they were little.

A decision YOU made about your childs body and specifically, their genitalia.

OP- no we did not circumcise. As far as the needing to for health reasons, if it needs to be done it can be done and he will be given plenty of pain medication and be able to express discomfort. To me, it is likely saying every female should have her breast tissue removed because of breast cancer incidence. You get to make that choice as an ADULT when the risk of keeping the tissue outweigh any benefits. You dont need breasts and they can cause issues down the line- so just chop them off. Less money for bras too!

Boys should be wearing condoms 100% to protect against any STIs but also because that is the only form of BC that they are in charge of- as of now, besides vasectomy and abstinence. So I dont pay mind to the HIV risks- as negligible to the US population and unsubstantiated as they are.
