Trump vs. DeSantis: who would do the most damage?

I’m a nurse and all I know is that we have tons of Florida nurses who became travelers bc hospital conditions in FL during Covid waves were a hot mess (in terms of staffing and unsafe ratios). Not to mention they pay nurses horribly.

DC lost a lot of healthcare workers also. They passed a booster mandate in DC for all healthcare workers and plenty of people say 'no thanks'. Lots of burnout in healthcare in general, all over the country. Staffing issue everywhere.

Okay, but...

One-quarter of the U.S. population resides in eight states—Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, and Texas—but, by mid-August 2021, these states together had a half of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the nation.

You need to adjust for geography and season. The south tends to get hit in the summer and other states in the winter.

Then explain this. (Florida not in bottom 5.) https://www.statista.com/statistics/1109011/coronavirus-covid19-death-rates-us-by-state/

Florida was #9 in 2021. If DeSantis is such a smart guy, how did that happen? I guess he gambled that it would be worth it. More people would appreciate his policies than would be dismayed by the unnecessary deaths.

He was probably right...

The ultra conservatives have been busy setting up infrastructure in DC so not to be as flatfooted like in 2016. They are ready and waiting to support either Trump or DeSantis. Media portrayals of Desantis like to paint him as the next Trump, but I think he would be better on some issues such as foreign policy. He is an opportunist just like Trump, but I think there is benefit to having someone who is smarter and more rational as opposed to ego and grievance driven. Trump will have learned from his first term and be more effective at grift and destruction if he is in again.

Trump learns nothing. Ever.

Re: the bolded. You clearly did not pay attention to the whole Disney debacle.

Agree with you that Trump probably didn't learn much, but his family and the people around him will.

Regarding Disney, DeSantis is quite gifted at turning Florida politics into national news. He is also smart enough to know that any serious R contender must appeal to the Trumpy wing and the Disney debacle was red meat for the base. He is building his MAGA bona fides nation-wide and the left-wing media outrage over his antics is playing into these objectives nicely.

The Disney thing was pretty brilliant. Parents are increasingly skeptical of the push by companies and special interest groups to push progressive values onto kids, and this was indeed reassurance that DeSantis intends to push back just as hard.

Just so everyone is on the same page as this person and Ron DeSantis, they don’t want gay families to exist, to be able to be discussed. They don’t want real American history discussed. And DeSantis hasn’t gone after women’s rights yet, but he will if given the chance.

What regressives like this person want is White men on top, gays in the closet, Black people in constant danger and women with no rights at all. Only approved books allowed. Only pretend history taught. A poorly educated populace.
I could go on but you get the drift.

DP. I tried to find anything in your post that was even remotely truthful, but you managed to lie about everything. Please provide sources stating all of the boldest. We’ll wait (and wait, and wait…).

So sick of the lies about DeSantis. I guess people like the PP actually think no one will call them out. Pathetic.

The Democrats can’t come up with actual faults, so they have consistently been making up lies to attack DeSantis. Or posting their own ‘alternative facts’. Florida did no worse or no better than other states when you look at the data. DeSantis’ Covid policies were fine.

Yeah being the 9th worst state in the second year of the pandemic is just fantastic. I get it - few Floridians care. Most Americans don't care. But at least acknowledge that the bolded is simplistic and inaccurate.

There are some that recognize Florida's approach to dealing with Covid was the right one.....

California, New York handled COVID-19 lockdowns the worst, Florida among the best, a new study shows

A new study has graded states by how well they handled the coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent restrictions and lockdowns, showing a stark contrast between liberal and conservative states.

The Committee To Unleash Prosperity study compared state performance on metrics including the economy, education, and mortality from the virus, and examined how states and their respective governments handled the pandemic response.

"Shutting down their economies and schools was by far the biggest mistake governors and state officials made during COVID, particularly in blue states," Steve Moore, co-founder of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity, told Fox News Digital. "We hope the results of this study will persuade governors not to close schools and businesses the next time we have a new virus variant."

New York, California, New Jersey and Illinois were among the worst in dealing with the coronavirus, performing "poorly on every measure," the report said.

These states "had high age-adjusted death rates; they had high unemployment and significant GDP losses, and they kept their schools shut down much longer than almost all other states," the report added.

The study also found no correlation in those states that enacted stringent travel, vocation and dining restrictions with lower death totals.

"The study verifies other studies which have found that locking down businesses, stores, churches, schools, and restaurants had almost no impact on health outcomes across states," the report determined. "States with strict lockdowns had virtually no better performance in COVID death rates than states that remained mostly open for business."

I live in Florida and if you held a gun to my head - please don't - I would choose DeSantis over Trump. DeSantis is evil and bad, but at least he's unlikely to be as reckless or chaotic.

He's not a stupid person and I don't think he's corrupt, he just wants very different things from our society than I do. I guess I think we can mostly live through that - if badly. I don't think he's likely to lead an armed insurrection if he loses.
