The ultra conservatives have been busy setting up infrastructure in DC so not to be as flatfooted like in 2016. They are ready and waiting to support either Trump or DeSantis. Media portrayals of Desantis like to paint him as the next Trump, but I think he would be better on some issues such as foreign policy. Agree with you that Trump probably didn't learn much, but his family and the people around him will.

He is also smart enough to know that any serious R contender must appeal to the Trumpy wing and the Disney debacle was red meat for the base. He is building his MAGA bona fides nation-wide and the left-wing media outrage over his antics is playing into these objectives nicely. [/quote]

The Democrats can’t come up with actual faults, so they have consistently been making up lies to attack DeSantis.  Or posting their own ‘alternative facts’.  Florida did no worse or no better than other states when you look at the data.  DeSantis’ Covid policies were fine.[/quote]
