I don’t want to just wring my hands over it though. I don’t want to live in a white Christian nationalist country. It’s very frustrating that so many Republicans are so tolerant of these authoritarian types. I can’t understand why they don’t want better lives for themselves. |
Authoritarian? You are confused.... You are thinking of Biden, et al. THEY are the ones who pushed (and continue to push) mandates despite the fact that he said he wouldn't. ("No — I don't think it should be mandatory. I wouldn't demand it to be mandatory," Biden said of the coronavirus vaccine.) This is a governor who refused to implement mandates associated with Covid. He allowed his state's residents to determine what is best for them. This is NOT authoritarian. At all. |
|
Biden didn't make vaccines mandatory. People could opt out and opt in to frequent testing.
DeSantis hid covid information more than once. Hiding info is what authoritarians do. He tried to not allow cruise companies to have vaccine mandates. Controlling businesses is what authoritarians do. Teachers aren't allowed to say 'gay'. I think you get my point. |
This. None of it is normal. The fact that we have to worry about either of these psychopaths becoming President is just insane. |
It's not just Trump people having learned from that experience though. Read this article yesterday and it's pretty clear that any right wing authoritarian figure, when/if elected president, now has the infrastructure and blueprint for dismantling the federal government and installing sychophants across several layers of the executive branch. To answer OP's question: Both Trump and DeSantis fit the profile (authoritarian/extreme RW) and vicious, though a DeSantis regime will be more organized, more competent and less chaotic on a day-to-day basis than a Trump one. |

Not talking about Rebekah Jones...
--- Alawsuit has been filed in Florida by a Democratic lawmaker and a non-profit group that is accusing the state's Department of Health (FDOH) of violating public-records laws by refusing to offer daily data reports on the COVID pandemic. Democratic state Representative Carlos Guillermo Smith and the Florida Center for Government Accountability filed the lawsuit in Leon County Circuit Court on Monday, claiming that the health department told them that the data is no longer a public record. Florida reported daily COVID figures in the state, including cases and deaths and breakdowns by county until June 4, but since then it has only published the data on a weekly basis with less detailed information available. https://www.newsweek.com/florida-covid-19-data-lawsuit-carlos-guillermo-smith-deaths-cases-delta-variant-1624859 |
| Desantis is smarter and competent but at least outwardly he'd obey the law. I think. |
| Desantis is what this Country needs right now. |
This country needs more opportunistic politicians who use culture wars for personal gain? No thanks. |
| If Trump wins, he’d die in office most likely. Something to think about. |
Oh? He talks about freedom and choice and then berates kids for wearing masks. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/florida-governor-admonishes-students-wearing-face-masks-83212180 |
| They are both awful. I think one thing in DeathSantis’ favor is that he may at least attract competent people. At this point, no Republican with half a brain and any self respect would work in a second Trump term. It would be Rudy, My Pillow and Kraken lady running things and that is terrifying. |
Yes, that’s it! You are so clever! |
DP. He wasn’t berating them, you twit. He was expressing exasperation with the ridiculous mask rules at the time. But you know that. |
