When is the Virtual Academy MS / HS Orientation

Unfortunately, what we observe is that not ALL students are provided with opportunities to excel in academics driven by equity over excellence. This approach will most likely fail the highly abled students in the system.

We hope for a new board and changes in leadership so that MCPS can get back to academic excellence and help all students reach their maximum potential

This has nothing to do with virtual academy. Take your mcps issues elsewhere. Mcps has never had nor never will have academic excellence or meet most kids needs.

Again, what are you talking about? There has been transparency. You are attacking a school you know nothing about. If anything there has been more opportunities in VA for my kids as they offer classes we cannot get at our home school. As a parent, you can make sure your kids excel.

Lack of transparency in the process is the problem. No information is available on VA admission process.
It appears that the focus and money is spent on paid PR posting on these forums to divert and discourage parents from discussing important issues that effect future of their children.

You must be one of those privileged parent who can get information that others can't.

What exactly are you looking for?

https://news.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/quicknotes/montgomery-virtual-academy-now-accepting-2022-2023-applications/

The Virtual Academy serves students in a comprehensive, full-time online instructional program. The program will continue to expand its infrastructure and services, innovative instructional approaches and flexible options to access coursework, particularly for high school students.

Admission considerations include:

For elementary school students: Primarily for students with extenuating circumstances related to health or other reasons that can be mitigated through a virtual learning program.
For middle and high school students: For students to gain access to innovative courses, flexible scheduling and specialty courses that may not be available in all schools, and for students with extenuating circumstances, including health and other reasons, that can be mitigated through a virtual program.

Last year, Our application went into dark box and never heard anything back from MCPS for months after school year started. Obviously what is posted online is disconnected from the reality. Go figure

Did you follow up or send your application in again? They only had so much space and those with health issues got first priority.

Everyone can get the same information. Look at their website and if you are in VA, you need to attend the meetings. If you are not in VA, why do you care what goes on?

Have you been drinking too much? If you need information, call, email or go into the office. You refuse to do anything but complain.

What a waste of tax payer money spent on PR for posting these repeated messages on dcum. instead MCPS should spend this on children's education

I’d also note that MCPS did presentations to the BOE last school year about Virtual. Anyone can look them up.

Do you want parents to go through information that is a year old? How about putting updated information on website for a little transparency?
