Bingo night?

Lol. We must go to the same school. Astounded they held this event indoors with this surge!!! I didn’t let my kid go.

They are indoors all day for school. What difference is Bingo?

NP here.
My guess is a bunch of adults that don’t wear masks attended the event.
Cases have been isolated within classrooms this entire time. Mixing in a bunch of new germs will do this.

No difference. Same with prom. Why is no one crying foul about that? I am personally glad Bingo night has been happening at various schools. It’s a glimmer of normalcy for our kiddos. There is no need to be “astounded” lol.

I agree.

It is time for normal to return for the kids.

It should have been back in fall of 2020.

I’m glad schools are moving on and offering these community events.

Schools should not be taking your vacation plans into consideration.

A mask isn’t stopping this.

You people are so against masks. Rates were not this high in schools when masks were required.

It’s not because masks have been removed. It’s because
- people are traveling
- people are going back to work
- large conferences are happening
- proms, dances and auctions
- other large events.

A lot has changed. Don’t attribute it all to masks.

Thank god schools aren't listening to the covid crazies.

Absolutely these social events should be occurring. We have all moved on. No one cares how many people at a school have Covid. Welcome to the future.

Oh please. People were out and doing things, as well as traveling (even when they maybe should not have been), kids were playing sports (like mine). All in masks and transmission was low when they did this. We had not a single COVID case on my child's travel team for the entirety of Covid - UNTIL masks went away.

It is the masks. Or, I should say, the anti-maskers.

Sure. There were always people doing some things. But substantially more people are attending large events now. They are expected and required to. That’s the root cause. Not the masks. I mean most kids are still wearing them anyway. Get real.

You’re aware that schools were closed for the worst 3 weeks of the last omicron surge? If you look at the FCPS dashboard you will see that current highest day of reported covid cases is just a hair higher than the highest day in December when masks were still required (and right before the three week break when cases undoubtedly would have skyrocketed if school was still in session despite mandatory masking). How do you explain this?

Your child has been wearing a mask to play their sport this entire time?

Sports weren’t even wearing masks a year ago.

This area has been slow to move on. We are about a year behind the rest of the country.

Yup, this.

This area has also had a death rate from COVID that is 1/3 that of the rest of the country so maybe being "behind" wasn't totally a bad thing. Yes, we were frustratingly conservative about some things like being so slow to get the kids back to school even part time, but I think it was better than the other extreme.

The mildness of the current variant and high vaccination rate in the area seem to be keeping hospitalizations and other negative markers low, so hopefully we can continue in the direction of removing restrictions and keep activities mask-optional.

Do you think so? I'm a teacher and no more than 3 or 4 students in my ES class are wearing masks. That seems to be on par for the rest of the grade level and most of the school. That's not a complaint (I haven't been wearing one either), just an observation.

The only place most kids are wearing masks is middle school--and that's for non-covid reasons.
