COVID cases at school record

Anonymous
Our principal just sent out an email— 28 COVID positives today. That’s double what we were seeing last week. What’s the daily record at your school?
Anonymous
I think our ES hasn't had more than 8 in a day but they haven't released today's numbers yet.
At what point does the Health Department get involved? They should be providing onsite PCR testing with numbers that high.

There’s PCR testing happening in the school parking lot right now…

Is this elementary, middle, high?

Elementary school of like 800-900 students

29 at Lake Braddock today, almost 100 last week.

I don't know why they send this when nothing will change, no masks, no testing.

It allows individual families decide if they want to take more/less precautions. I would guess we ditch this reporting in the Fall.

It’s probably safe to say most schools are having record numbers.

We were expecting this Omicron subvariant for a month, and none of the virology experts can quite understand why it took so long for this variant to cross the Atlantic, when it reached peak last month in Europe. By comparison, the original Omicron crossed in a matter of two weeks. This subvariant is even more contagious, so...?

Anyway, this surge is not a surprise.

Mask up if you don't want to get bogged down by quarantines and symptoms.

What precaution can I take? I can't just keep them at home? I encourage hand washing and sanitizing, but they're unmasked at lunch as they should be.

what is there to do? Why tell us the numbers with no action?

Our school is a LB feeder, so it’s just reflecting the uptick in the community. But I checked the numbers at nearby elementary schools and they’re not elevated.

There is no action. We have 4 weeks after this one and hundreds of seniors done in a few weeks. We ride it out. Thankfully it’s 5 days out now so that makes it a little easier for absences.

Please do not send your student to school with a headache, fever, nausea, cough, chills, sore throat, runny nose, congestion and or sudden loss or complaint of foods tasting odd and or loss of smell. I think I listed all Covid like symptoms. Because here’s what will happen: your DC will self report and or a teacher will notice one or more of above symptoms and student will be sent to the clinic. Expect a call to pick up your student asap, like within a 1/2 hour. Ask for a Covid test kit at pick up.

And: if by now at this point in the school year you’ve not noted in your students health record that student has ongoing headaches, seasonal allergies, for example, your kid is still going home as there is no note in the file. Perhaps you can get a medical provider’s note added to your students file.

Also, we are trying to keep everyone safe. We are not calling you to make your life inconvenient or to harass you. Please don’t scream at me when I politely state the facts to collect your student.

Yes, keeping your sick child waiting for over 2 hours is noted by the administration. We track how long a student has to wait.

You can mask, upgrade your mask, test your family regularly. You can't be in a zero covid zone, it's just not where we are from a public health perspective. None of us wants COVID no matter how cavalier some of these anti-mask parents sound. We are trying to keep people out of hospitals - the best way to do that is to get vaccinated and mask up. You need to let go what Larla's family is doing. We are not going to close down schools or require masks again.

Well none of the kids taking AP exams are going to test because there is no support for them if they miss several exams with the switch with Eid. Finals, prom, etc. I just think they don't send this if they aren't doing anything because it just makes me stress out when there is nothing done. And fine with nothing, but quit telling us about all the cases. Cases higher than ever in this whole thing.
