COVID cases at school record

Anonymous
PP and ask if your school has hired a Covid case manager. You may be shocked to learn that your school does not have anyone in charge of monitoring cases. Also ask if the school has a Care Room to semi isolate students who are sick with Covid symptoms. Again, some schools send sick students to a back hallway or to the front office or some multiple sick students like 5-6 to all sit together in a small room.

It’s a shit show out there

I don't know why they send this when nothing will change, no masks, no testing.

It allows individual families decide if they want to take more/less precautions. I would guess we ditch this reporting in the Fall.

What precaution can I take? I can't just keep them at home? I encourage hand washing and sanitizing, but they're unmasked at lunch as they should be.

what is there to do? Why tell us the numbers with no action?

There is no action. We have 4 weeks after this one and hundreds of seniors done in a few weeks. We ride it out. Thankfully it’s 5 days out now so that makes it a little easier for absences.

Well none of the kids taking AP exams are going to test because there is no support for them if they miss several exams with the switch with Eid. Finals, prom, etc. I just think they don't send this if they aren't doing anything because it just makes me stress out when there is nothing done. And fine with nothing, but quit telling us about all the cases. Cases higher than ever in this whole thing.

I agree. I don’t want to know.

What? I only got the first sentence.

Our highest was 10, 15 days ago. We haven't had any reported since. Prior to that our last case was mid-February.

Most people don't seem concerned. I'm not. I had only 1 student wearing a mask today.

We need to move past the counting of cases.

Why don’t you just delete the emails? (Not being snarky.)

Please do not send your student to school with a headache, fever, nausea, cough, chills, sore throat, runny nose, congestion and or sudden loss or complaint of foods tasting odd and or loss of smell. I think I listed all Covid like symptoms. Because here’s what will happen: your DC will self report and or a teacher will notice one or more of above symptoms and student will be sent to the clinic. Expect a call to pick up your student asap, like within a 1/2 hour. Ask for a Covid test kit at pick up.

And: if by now at this point in the school year you’ve not noted in your students health record that student has ongoing headaches, seasonal allergies, for example, your kid is still going home as there is no note in the file. Perhaps you can get a medical provider’s note added to your students file.

Also, we are trying to keep everyone safe. We are not calling you to make your life inconvenient or to harass you. Please don’t scream at me when I politely state the facts to collect your student.

Yes, keeping your sick child waiting for over 2 hours is noted by the administration. We track how long a student has to wait.

With spring allergies in this area, half the kids in the school have the sniffles.

Are you telling me FCPS is spending precious school dollars paying for "covid case managers" at individual schools? That's insane. What purpose do they serve at this point?

Yup. It was an option with ESSR funds.

I do- I just mean I don’t really care to get the emails at all anymore.

Our school hired a part-time covid case manager to handle the increased number of students who are out with covid. Previously the principal was doing it - with the addition of the case manager, the principal could focus on her job instead of handling the covid students too.

What's there to "handle"?

All the money spent on these case managers could have been used for tutoring, something actually beneficial to students.

Yup. And now that tracing is done, even with more cases, ours is doing office duty and even covering classes sometimes.
