I guess it’s easier to be upset at the Ukrainian government than their own. |
“ A private volunteer group from Florida said it has launched an attempt to usher about two dozen Americans out of Ukraine in the first evacuation of U.S. citizens since the country came under Russian military attack on Thursday.” https://www.reuters.com/world/private-group-mounts-evacuation-americans-ukraine-amid-russian-assault-2022-02-25/ If you look at the photo you will see “able bodied men” being evacuated to the U.S.

Did you mean to respond to a different post? |
French Expat PP here. The stations have “boots on the ground” as you say. They’re reporting from the Ukraine and from Poland. The journalists are there. So they’re verified accounts. I am pretty surprised at resistance to posters accepting these reports. You can also read lemonde.fr if you want it from a newspaper. The French press is reporting today it is now being recommended for African and Indian citizens to try to exit through Hungary instead of Poland (if they can get there) which historically has had a horrible track record with racism, human rights, etc. So imagine it is so bad in Poland they tell you to go to Hungary. But Hungary has said they’re willing to take and help them and are waiting to receive. |
No, I was pointing out that even Americans need a volunteer organization to help get them out of Ukraine. However, passage to the EU countries has been easier for them because of their nationality. |
Assuming this is all accurate, then there is your answer. The issue is Poland, not Ukraine, so demonizing Ukraine for not fixing this issue with Poland for its non-citizens when it is in the middle of being invaded by Russia on three sides is a whole lot of victim blaming. Be better than that, FFS. |
It’s both Ukraine and Poland. |
That doesn’t make sense. If Ukraine were refusing to profess these people at all, they wouldn’t be able to get into Hungary either. The pro-Russia propaganda/ignorance is so tedious. |
Africa is a huge continent not a country. 2/27/22 BBC on African countries and Russia: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-60506765 And https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-60555650 When the US State department says get out weeks ago those students from other countries attending universities in Ukraine had somewhere else to go. US citizens in Ukraine had somewhere to go... Could the average Ukrainian citizen have booked a flight and gained entry to the USA with no visa or passort weeks ago? No. |
Putin lovers don’t listen to facts or reason. Their only goal is to undermine support for Ukraine. |
And that is wrong. I wasn't saying white people don't do bad things. That would be the dumbest thing on earth to say. But my point is that shitty behavior isn't limited to one ethnicity. My point was it is hypocritical of anyone to only care what happens to people in certain situations and be mad about others not caring. If you're going to be mad, have the decency to pretend you cared when this happened to other people. |

If they are students, they were told weeks ago to leave. That is on their embassy/country to get them out.
If they are illegal immigrants....well, that's the risk you take when you are in foreign countries illegally and S hits the fan. A country is going to take care of its own citizens when disasters strike before the needs of foreign nationals who are there unauthorized. |
Exactly. It stinks but that unfortunately is life. Look at Afghanistan. Some countries did an amazing job of getting their stragglers out (Korea) and some did not (U.S.). |
| I look forward to the outrage at Nigerian for abandoning their own people and expecting others to fix it. |
Huh? Where did I ever demonize Ukraine? I am not understanding your reply to what the French news is reporting. You make no sense to me, sorry. French news is saying that Africans and Indians cannot get through, some reports of going to the back of the line, some just being refused entry. So it sounds like it’s an issue for both Ukraine and Poland. If they reach the front of the line, they’re dealing with the Polish. If they can’t get on a train or are kicked off of their bus or can’t even reach the line, then the issue appears to be with Ukraine. It’s not 100% one or the other. There is also the issue of volume. It appears the Polish boarder and certain entry points are receiving exponentially more people than others. So the sheer volume is a huge obstacle. Mo Creek, from Oxon Hill, MD and who played for GW, and plays pro ball, in the Ukraine is desperate to get out and is stuck. Yes, they’re Africans, Indians and even black Americans who have been trying to get out and cannot. And just like Ukrainian citizens, were caught off guard because the government was telling them all the way to Wednesday night everything is fine, don’t worry. |
