Does the lack of an age gap create more problems in marriages than we acknowledge?

Its seems “preferable” to whom? To perverts, gold diggers and Indian MILs?

DH is 6 years older than I am. I have always thought to marry at least 3 years older than me. And I got married in my early 30s.

My sister married someone younger than her. They divorced after two years.

of course, YMMV.

Please tell me you don't have children or major responsibilities. I fear for anyone in your care.

This is one bizarre thesis.

My DH is 7 years older than me, fwiw.

Age doesn’t matter for long term marriages.

“Scientists find that women tend to be more satisfied with younger husbands and less satisfied with older husbands. Interestingly, men likewise tend to be more satisfied with younger wives and less satisfied with older wives. Marital satisfaction declines with marital duration for both men and women in differently-aged couples relative to those in similarly-aged couples. These relative declines erase the initial higher levels of marital satisfaction experienced by men married to younger wives and women married to younger husbands within 6 to 10 years of marriage. A possible mechanism is that differently-aged couples are less resilient to negative shocks compared to similarly-aged couples, which is supported by evidence. “

You don’t need scientists, just basic common sense to understand why marriages between friends and lovers of similar age group tend to have more harmony.

Women live longer so makes sense for them to marry younger men.

Men tend to die earlier regardless of the marital age gap but mortality in women is lowest when a woman is the same age as her husband and increases with increasing age discrepancy.

In general, the larger the age gap, more are the problems that couples tend to face.

I think older people get, wider age gap get. You won’t see many 25 year olds marrying 15 year old girls from junior high school. Men who marry early, tend to prefer women their own age. Men who weren't successful in finding appropriate mates at an appropriate age or got divorced, tend to dip lower as most eligible women there age are already happily married.

every woman I know who has a younger husband is really good looking --- I think it may be motivating (they are motivated to stay fit and take good care of themselves).
