Not true. I blame:

The kid
The parents (maybe even more than the kid)
The school admin (for not calling police/searching the bag/sending the kid home)
The laws for giving this kid more rights than his fellow students.

I can blame many things at once. An absolutely tragedy that could have been prevented so many ways.

Let's not pretend they were innocently sleeping with no idea what was going on with their child. They are in jail for their role in this, for what they did and failed to do, not for "something they didn't even do." People have been put on death row for murders committed by others, not be cause they committed the murder, but because they had a role in it.
