Scary. Things are already crumbling. |
All part of the Steve Bannon plan. Destroy all you can of the Government. And he's succeeding. |
It seems like Graham gave up because shortly after that article are ones where he’s telling Trump to declare a national emergency. https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/01/10/politics/lindsey-graham-wall-emergency-powers/index.html?r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2Fsearch%2F%3Fq%3DGraham At this point I almost think he’s decided our options are permanent shutdown or national emergency declaration. |
Yeah, this article thinks he'll do a national emergency too, even though plenty of people on both sides have questions about its legality. https://www.mcall.com/opinion/mc-opi-shutdown-end-how-emergency-trump-20190110-story.html |
Is it naive of me to think he will declare a national emergency- then government will reopen? |
I don't think Trump cares about the legality of declaring a national emergency, and it is his only way out of this. And it is the type of bold move his base would love.
Would it be struck down by the courts? Eh, some commentators seem sure that it would, others say that he would be on solid ground. In any event, the court challenges would take years. I just wish he would get it over with so we could go back to work. |
Nope. Trump will do this Saturday or Monday. Then he can claim he caused “the longest most tremendous shutdown ever.” Since Dems wouldn’t budge he made the hard choice to call national emergency, then they reopen gov. This will be stuck in courts, nothing will happen and we move on. This is Trumps playbook. |
So, if it's obvious that Trump had the legal right to build the wall without Congress, why hasn't he done it already? Why wasn't MAGA-world telling him to do it in January 2017? Hint: Because everyone knows the emergency declaration is baseless.

He painted himself into a corner. Congress doesn’t support the wall or they would have passed it when they control Congress. Declaring an emergency is his only way out of this mess. It will die in the courts and he will move onto another manufactured crisis. |
Nah, he just figured he’d use it as an excuse to get out of work while he can. He is itching to get back on the golf course. That’s where he will be at that time. |
Not naive at all. This is his only way out. Declare an emergency so that he can finally hit the links again. The courts will be mulling it over. He will return from his golf outing and promptly create a diversion for his base so that everyone forgets about the whole thing. When/if pressed about it, he will say the liberal courts are obstructing. |
This is not a bold move. It is narcissistic reality TV that his base loves. The fact that the wall was not an issue until this year (when GOP had the congress completely, the fact that he admitted that he lied during campaign and his base ate the shit anyway and the fact that emergency declaration will still not have the wall (because of being tied in the court for years) says that his base likes drama. Cult45 does not care about any solution, otherwise he would have taken the deal year ago when Schumer offered him 25B in exchange for DACA impasse resolution. His base can go to hell! |
I’m trying to practice kindness but I 1000% agree. |
It's terrible precedent, whether it succeeds or fails. Rs know this.
Ugh. |
This shutdown will only help Trump in 2020. He is willing to negotiate, the Dems say no and I predict not only does he win the electoral college, he gets the majority of the vote. The Democratic party is being run by its fringe and America leans center right. |
