Actually, they *renovated* the school that was next in line due to age of the facility - Langley. McLean has already been renovated in 2005. It’s called waiting your turn. |
+1 |
Langley was due for a renovation. No one is denying that. McLean should have received an addition. It’s the school, not Langley, with the increasing enrollment, and Langley’s catchment area is big enough already. |
I believe fcps automatically expands the schools that they renovate.
They think that it makes sense to expand while you've got walls coming down and wiring out and life disrupted. I agree. |
When McLean is renovated it will be expanded beyond its student population.
|
????? |
Look at the 2019 bond - Justice, Madison and West Potomac are getting additions that aren’t part of an otherwise scheduled renovation. Why those schools but not McLean? Strauss told McLean in 2015 before the last election that it would get an addition before any kids were moved to Langley. Did she lie deliberately or just not know what she was talking about? |
It's that kind of simple-mindedness that makes people easy to manipulate. None of the candidates are running to put Langley kids into Herndon. If that's all Herndon cares about they may as well skip the vote. If that's all Langley cares about then they are already set no matter who wins. Wouldn't it be better to research the candidates for yourself and support one based on track record, policy positions, character, etc? Be an adult and support Tholen and anyone else from a position of knowledge. If you think and act like a child expect to be treated like one. |
Who knows at this point. She seems to contradict herself on a few things. If she were running again she would be in trouble. |
Curious. I don't live in Dranesville--but, why Tholen over the others? |
This may come as a shock, but we don't agree that "equity" means "all schools must be demographically identical" |
For lots of elementary schools, kids pretty much attend in their neighborhoods. How are we going to change this? Will it be fair that one section of the neighborhood gets shipped out just to make another school "more equal?" Is that the definition of "equity?" That your child may have to get on a bus away from her neighborhood in order to satisfy the School Board's definition of "equity?" |

On a recent afternoon, WAMU was invited to accompany undercover local officers and ICE agents as they staked out Herndon High School. They were looking for a specific youth who they say is an MS-13 gang member. Herndon Police Sergeant Claudio Saa says that the changes in requirements for gang membership have led to a rise in serious crimes in Northern Virginia. Armando Trull / WAMU “He’s known to frequent this location, this school, this parking lot,” said Lt. Evan Weeks of the Fairfax County Police Department. “The last intelligence we got is that he’s been here trying to cause trouble with a rival gang member and his gang.” This is from 2017. So I guess "MS-13 is in Herndon High School" is more than a rumor. |
Don't be naive. MS-13 is throughout FCPS. Maybe not in every school, but probably in most. |
I will keep looking.
If I find the police stalking out other high schools and saying there is active MS-13 activity I will post that too. This thread is about Herndon and I wanted to investigate the claims made several pages back Mara Salvatrucha operates there. |
