McLean families don't want to move to Langley, but I don't think they'll pull their kids out of FCPS as a result.

We would be very disappointed. It's too bad FCPS expanded the school that has a declining enrollment, yet overlooked the school that has been growing.

The McLean families that will likely move to Langley already live close to Langley anyway, so most do not really have a problem with the move. It's not likely they would be moving families that live way south near Arlington to Langely. So the families affected already live close to Langley HS and likely have higher incomes and demographics similar to those that live in upper McLean. And given that it likely won't happen immediately, most current McLean HS students will have graduated by the time this goes into effect. It isn't happening next fall, and any changes likely won't go effective for another 2-5 years.

The plan that Janie Strauss floated earlier this year didn't involve moving the kids at McLean who live closest to Langley there. Doubt that will happen.

That plan got canceled. All bets are off and McLean parents will be actively involved.

If all bets are off, you probably should shelve your predictions as to which areas are "likely" to move for a while.

I'm a DP than anyone who has made predictions and no duh that's what "all bets are off" means.

Right? I thought the same thing. My kids aren't HS age yet, but would love to be rezoned to Langley HS for when they are of age (or after if only for the property value increase).

Would there really be much of a difference in property values going from the McLean to the Langley zone?

I'm a Langley parent and I just think the scores are so similar (the measure first looked at when considering schools).

Maybe LHS gets the edge on facilities but McLean will probably get a renovation before too long.

McLean was renovated in 2005. It will be many years before FCPS renovates it again. They might build an addition at some point, but not when Langley has so many available seats.

Langley is wealthier and typically has slightly higher test scores, but McLean has more diversity, more compact boundaries, and a higher percentage of families who send their kids to public school - all considered advantages by many parents.

The renovations at Herndon are starting to take shape and look very nice.

I wonder how people will feel getting moved from renovated Longfellow to Cooper right when the construction at Cooper is starting.

No fun but if the alternative is 4 years at overcrowded McLean later it's obviously a better deal. Some people will have to move.

Langley has always been the top dog in VA, similar to Whitman over in MD. There is a reason SFH in McLean zoned for Langley HS have higher sales prices than SFHs in McLean zoned for McLean HS.

Single family homes zoned for McLean cost more per square foot than those zoned for Langley. The locations are generally more convenient. That's part of why McLean is overcrowded and Langley is under capacity.

I didn't mean to start a Langley vs. McLean thing!

They are both good schools and have been. I think parts of the Langley area went to McLean not to long ago and without a fuss.

We could be swapping neighborhoods for the next 50 years lol

Why are you surprised when people don’t respond to your bait? The burden isn’t on Herndon residents to respond to Great Falls residents claiming that Herndon “sucks.” The burden is in Great Falls residents to explain why they think it’s OK to take advantage of county resources [b] when it suits them,[/] yet also pretend to be an autonomous community to avoid an equitable share of the county’s students with greater educational needs.

Langley needs a makeover.

No one claimed GF was autonomous. Can't you do any better than a straw man argument?

If a good percentage of us decide it no longer suits us to "take advantage" of Fairfax county public schools you will complain about that.

Nope. Straw men is all people like this have.
