This is completely different from a special needs student or advanced student or remedial student or whatnot that MCPS knows the history of, and makes a determination that putting that student in a freshman classroom makes sense. These 2 men only arrived in the country 7 or 8 months ago. MCPS had no idea who they were when throwing them in to a regular class.

And, someone explain to me why MCPS should be educating a recently-arrived, without parents, illegal immigrant who is an adult, anyway. This makes no sense to me.

They weren't in a regular class. They were in the METS program.

Also, recentness of arrival, accompaniment by parents, and immigration status are not relevant to school enrollment, and students without high school diplomas may enroll in school through age 21.

And that is wrong. Once you hit 20, you should go to an alternative HS or community college to get your GEDs.

Also, I would not think it's great for an 18 yr old's self esteem to be sitting in class with a bunch of 13/14 yr olds.

Perhaps ask some parents of children with severe disabilities how they feel about reducing the age from 21 to 20.

Off topic.

Without documentation, you have NO idea how old these criminals really are.

Without documentation of age, you have no idea how old anybody is. Do you know for a fact that these two people had no documentation of age? Should MCPS refuse to enroll anybody who doesn't have documentation of age?

Yep. I had to show a birth certificate, proof of home address, medical file, etc before my kids could enroll. Maybe I should just tell them I don't have any paperwork and can't remember my address so that my kid can enroll at Whitman.

Brilliant!

Everybody normal knows the difference between legal citizen special needs children most of whom everybody has known for years on the community ...

... And a unvetted lawbreaking illegal non English speaking 18 year old man showing up in freshmen classes.

Abnormal folks see no difference. When too many abnormal people have too much influence it's time to pull your children from the nonsensical environment .

Ummm, I had to show proof of age for my children by bringing in their birth certificates. And yes I think if you are an illegal immigrant, most especially if you are clearly an older student, the you need to show proof of age. Here we are as a county willing to throw all the resources to educate and feed you.. I think the least you can do is show proof of age. My God.

First, you don't know that they didn't show proof of age. Second, some people don't have proof of age. So then what? I know somebody who arrived as a child as a refugee -- from Vietnam, via refugee camps -- who had no proof of age. Fortunately the public school system did not act in accordance with your opinions.

In order to prevent rapes from occurring in schools, you want MCPS to do a psychiatric evaluation of all unaccompanied minors.

That's kind of like saying -- in order to prevent drunk driving, the police should put ignition interlocks on all vehicles driven by people aged 25-28.

(Note that I am not comparing drunk driving to rape. I am comparing ineffective strategies that don't actually address the problems they purport to address.)

Yes. If they want to put them in a regular classroom, absolutely. They come from war torn countries, do not have family support, have seen atrocities, possibly committed some along the way. You can't expect someone like this to function well in a US classroom. it's not like they flew coach into DCA from some middle class suburb. We know nothing of thee people yet allow them to vent their anger by joining gangs and raping girls. If this is not feasible, then we can't take them in.

Who has said that there is no difference between a US-born person with special needs and a person who is an unauthorized immigrant as an unaccompanied minor?

Actually, I know a parent whose child has autism, and she did pull him out when he got much bigger and older than the kids in the rest of the group. She didn't want him to be *that* kid. She put him in a special school.

The only problem is -- this won't actually prevent rapes from occurring in schools. If you excluded from school every person who arrived here from a wartorn country without their parents, there would still be rapes in schools. And meanwhile you would be excluding people from school. Most people who arrive here from a wartorn country without their parents do not rape. And most rapes are not done by people who arrived here from a wartorn country without their parents.

I do think the PC police are complicit. If these boys were previously arrested for whatever charge, they would still be walking the streets. For all we know, they may have. From what I understand, Rockville supports providing sanctuary to criminals. Strange how this story is not mentioned in the main media outlets... Some might say that it prevents unnecessary hysteria, others say it hides a problem...

I agree that incidents like this could unfairly give a negative perception to all immigrants but hiding it has much greater downsides...having to do with transparency, trust and public safety.

This story is not mentioned in the main media outlets because it's factually false.

Help me understand what is not true. Seriously. I don't live there.

This story is so crazy it's going to be cited nationally for a long time . It's all the nonsense and citizen destruction in one case.

We should get rid of all rapists in the country - White, Black, Hispanics, Asians - regardless of their immigration status, age, gender, sexual orientation.

We should also get rid of all the sexual predators, regardless of if they are high ranking officials of the government or have political connections.

Can we all agree on that?

If your kid was the victim who was brutally raped and sodimized, would you be calling it nonsense? I doubt it.

yes, but someone is not a rapist, until they rape. Too late, damage done by then. This is like criminals and guns, when people say that gun control doesn't restrict criminals from getting guns... well, the school shooters weren't criminals until they shot up the school.

It's not just rape in school. How crappy must the learning environment be with grown ESL men in 9th grade courses! I can see limousine liberals with kids at Sidwell and GDS claiming to love illegal students, but any public parent defending this insanity needs their head examined.
