MSI use of new JWMS turf fields

Does anyone know exactly what is happening with the delay in MSI's access to these new fields? Another week of rescheduling fields and times due to some issue with the city of Rockville. Please share if you have any intel. I am just a parent not in the know.

MSI hasn't signed the agreement with MCPS that was required.

100% MCPS and City of Rockville. My kids play for MSI and they are desperate for the fields to open (that they paid for).

That is half the story. There is no agreement on which organization is to maintain the fields at JWMS. If MSI was expecting MCPS to pay, that should have been put into the agreement. MCPS does not budget field maintenance for middle schools. MSI should just pony up the money and stop jerking around its teams. It is ridiculous.

wait.. in the other thread, someone stated that MCPS has set aside $20K for field maintenance, and how it's an outrage because it's coming out of the teacher's salary.

That’s 100% untrue. Why are you spreading lies?

The annual maintenance cost (time and materials) for grass field is much higher than turf fields. MCPS already has in their budget for annual grass maintenance at Julius West. I am a parent that will have a child attending JW next year and I can’t be happier that they now have a turf field.

MoCo has a shortage of turf fields. Most, if not all, MCPS grass fields in MoCo are in terrible shape and dangerous for kids to play on.

I don't believe an agreement was ever made about maintenance. That's what I am getting from what I have read...

Annual Grass Maintenance Costs are approximately $60/year if not more. Also, MCPS is able to rent out the turf field for a higher fee compared to grass fields. MSI basically paid 10 years worth of exclusive turf field rental. Note: Julius West has priority use of the field over MSI by paying for the field construction. When you rent a field or facility, you don’t pay for the maintenance of it. It’s part of the fee you pay to rent the field.

I assume you meant $60,000 ($60K) per year. That about right.
