There are many other clubs in MoCo as well, not just MSI that uses MCPS turf fields. Google soccer clubs in MoCo and you will know how many clubs there are in our area. And they all rent MCPS grass and turf fields. They also rent MoCo grass fields at parks too.

There’s a proposal to convert the dying Redgate Golf Club to soccer fields. If you are so against turf fields at high schools and middle schools, then push Rockville to do a public/private partnership to convert it to soccer fields similar to the Germantown SoccerPlex.

Facts?? Please share your facts. MSI has over 20,000 kids playing soccer throughout MoCo. JW is one of hundreds of field they rent from MoCo, Rockville and MCPS. No, it is not a huge awesome amount. It is a huge liability. The money only paid to install the artificial turf fields. It does not pay for maintenance, removal or replacement.

Again, see the WJ, RM, Wootton high school artificial turf fields. Installed and then abandoned. Those fields must be maintained, removed and replaced out of the MCPS Operating Budget because the whole fantasy artificial turf plan failed. Rentals did not materialize, rental income did not fund maintenance, removal or replacement.

Creating a liability for the MCPS Operating Budget is not awesome. It is a continual drain of education funds to an artificial turf field when that money could be used to pay for teachers or give teachers raises. MSI Soccer is making a choice for how the MCPS Operating Budget will be used. They want money to maintain, clean, remove and replace their field surface, classrooms be damned.

Would you rather that MCPS spend their own money instead of taking MSI money to build the turf fields? MSI is not making a choice. They just paid $2.4M based upon a settlement agreement with MoCo. It’s on MoCo and MCPS to determine if the agreement was advantageous before they agreed and signed on the dotted line.

If the field is to be used sole by MSI and no other can use it including any MCPS or JW indefinitely, then might go along with your argument. But this field belongs to MCPS and JW has priority use. MSI can only use it for 10 years not indefinitely.

MCPS middle schools are not in line for two artificial turf fields each or any artificial turf fields. That's not in the MCPS budget. MCPS would not have spent money on this project because it is not a priority. There are 40 MCPS middle schools. Now there is one middle school with two artificial turf fields creating immediate equity issues. Is MSI going to fund 78 more artificial turf fields at the rest of the middle schools so they will all have the same fields?

MSI can't use the field for 10 years, it won't last that long. By 10 years the fields will be out of service and unusable. These fields do not last that long. They must be removed and replaced. That creates a huge liability for the MCPS Operating Budget and permanently diverts education funds from teacher salaries to artificial turf. MSI parents value artificial turf more than public school teachers.

There are many other clubs in MoCo as well, not just MSI that uses MCPS turf fields. Google soccer clubs in MoCo and you will know how many clubs there are in our area. And they all rent MCPS grass and turf fields. They also rent MoCo grass fields at parks too.

Googling soccer clubs does not mean a thing. What means something is the actual dollar amount that MCPS collects for renting fields. That number is still $40,000, no matter what you google. Money from grass field rentals does not go to replace artificial turf fields, so those rentals are irrelevant.

MoCo is full of morons. There are way too many know-it-alls who don't know jack sh#t. The epicenter of the problem is in Rockville, which is why something so simple is creating problems. Bethesda Soccer and MSI managed to do something similar WJ, Wootton, RM and Einstein, yet giving JW the best turf field of any middle school in the DMV, including private schools, has created such an issue.

Gosh you’re stupid. RM, Wootton & WJ are exclusively leased by Bethesda Soccer Club (BSC) for years. This led to MSI suing MCPS years ago before the settlement agreement. MSI has nothing to do with these fields. If you like Rockville and it’s businesses, you should support MSI. Their HQ is in Rockville while BSC and Potomac Soccer is in Gaithersburg.

Citizens in Bethesda and Kensington loves their new turf fields at Whitman and Einstein HS respectively that were paid by MSI as well. The community around these HS are much affluent than Rose Hill, more importantly, have much more sense and intelligence.
