What do we think will happen on Monday?

Why aren’t we doing closures with online learning? Best of both worlds.

DH and I went out last night and were surprised by some road conditions in Northern VA. The interstate is clear, but other main roads have merge lanes that are blocked or shortened as well as lanes that suddenly disappear. My neighborhood roads are pretty good but people have to walk in the streets.

It will be interesting to see what FCPS decides.

I can take closed or open.

What I cannot take is online learning. Seventh circle of useless hell.

Oooooh!

Counterpoint: Howard County just announced two hour delay.

Because online learning is terrible and a waste of time, and FCPS learned their lesson when they closed schools for 9 months

I can get behind a delay so kids aren’t walking to school or waiting for a bus in the dark. But they need to open. The ice isn’t going anywhere. And based on the kids around my neighborhood they are just fine at walking over the hardened covered sidewalks. They need to wear more than a hoodie which I see them in today

What is the need that you speak of?

Who? Fredericksburg historically has some bearing on what FCPS decides, not some random MD county.

I'm not advocating one way or the other but I'm not going to pretend it's not relevant.

Actually they didn’t. I’d be happy to show you the emails where supervisors/principals were told to offer telework and virtual prof development for Thursday. And for Friday, it was a teacher workday where they already had the option to work in an alternate location. All administrators and office staff had the option to telework on Friday due to safety concerns about getting to school/office.

In short, no FCPS staff were directed to show up in person on Thursday or Friday because of safety concerns with commuting.

That’s crazy. Most non-fcps people went to work W, Th, and F. Fairfax County wasn’t closed. Staff commuting is totally different than schools being open for students. Staff should work. Transporting 178,000 kids is a whole different situation.

There was a lot of WFH last week. Even the federal government offered unscheduled telework, which is no different than what FCPS did.

Many private organizations offered WFH options as well.

Fredericksburg got upwards of an additional inch yesterday, which was made worse by the frigid temps.

Not sure a lesson was learned.

What Howard and Anne Arundel do is very irrelevant. MCPS, LCPS, FCPS, APS are the 4 that somewhat revolve around and impact one another when it comes to closures or delays.

There has been no planning to allow for a switch to online learning.

And PWCS. Don’t leave them out. A lot of teachers commute from there.
