Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| The roads are fine, the schools have all been plowed. Why would school be closed? I agree, there will probably be a two hour delay. Otherwise, my middle schooler and I will be in the drop off line an hour early. |
|
Teacher here. All of the schools have been cleared. There is no way that school will be canceled on Monday. Prepare yourselves.
And to the PP who said that their street still has not been plowed... It is very hard to believe your claim. If, by some chance, you speak the truth, why in the world did you not call VDOT on Tuesday to report the mistake? |
| Open on time. |
We were told by our principal not to come in tomorrow because the parking lot is still not cleared, so I don't know where you're getting this claim from. |
Because PP wants an excuse to be stuck at home. |
Not likely. |
I'm not sure if you're talking to me, but I did (OP). They came through again, but it is a road with a 90-degree right and left turn that were done by two plows starting from each road, which means that there is no room to turn. In addition, the road right outside the elementary school only has two lanes plowed, but the curve in the road is only plowed one way, which means cars (and therefore buses) will have to wait their turns to get to the elementary school. |
Some people think that what they want to happen will happen if they proclaim it with enough confidence and certainty. Instead of praying to God, they pretend to be God, uttering proclamations. They’re very annoying officious and unpleasant folk whose friends ignore them, so they resort to posting assertions on this forum. |
You can’t convince some people that their narrow perspective is not an omniscient one. When they dream, they dream that they are birds hovering over an unvariegated landscape of suburbs and families exactly like their own. |
Or she’s telling the truth? You might want to entertain that possibility. |
| To lighten up the thread here’s a funny anecdote that shows how bad things still are. Snow plow just came by and buried my yard’s front gate in ice (after I shoveled). I literally could not leave my front yard, and there wasn’t any way to dig around the fence from the inside since I’m too short. My neighbor literally had to carry me over my fence after trying to chip at the ice for 10 minutes to help me. |
Thank God for good neighbors… and curse for inattentive plow drivers. I’m glad you are okay!

| Schools definitely aren’t all cleared. I think they will spend the weekend working on it and we could have a delay due to temps and to get used to the lack of bus stops in the light so Tuesday can be on time. |
| The issue is not the school driveways and parking lots. Those can be taken care of. The issue is that there are way too many areas with unclear sidewalks, banks of hard snow covering bus stops and corner crossings blocked. None of that is melting anytime the next three days. I think that a two-hour delay is the best one can hope for. |
We’ve only used up, at most, 3 1/2 snow days. We were lucky this week coincided with pre-planned professional development days. Does FCPS still allot 10 snow days per school year? If so, nobody has to worry about a longer school year. |
