How can going from 2000 calories per day to 1500 not result in weight loss, when combined with moderate exercise? (walking 4x per week, yoga and Pilates 2x per week?)
Can some please please explain this to me! After 3 months, no real weight loss. I fluctuate 124-128. I am 5-2 and generally 127 pounds. I want to be 115. I am always hungry. |

Because you are short so you need fewer calories to lose weight. 2000/day is for taller people not us shorties (I'm only 5 ft).
Use this calculator to figure out your maintenance calories, then subtract 500 from that number: https://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/how-many-calories-should-i-eat-every-day-a-look-at-total-daily-energy-expenditure-tdee/ If you always feel hungry, also look at WHAT you're eating, not just the number of calories. If you're eating lots of carbs, it will increase your hunger. Lower carbs with higher fat and protein will satiate you more. Or eat a ton of broccoli - extremely filling, hardly any calories. |
if you eat gluten then all the water you drink holds on to your body. Start with eliminating gluten and grains and drink only as much water as you feel thirsty and check your urine if it is not dark then you are not dehydrated. If you drink one bottle of water it is one and a half pound, if you drink three then it is almost five pounds right there, if you eat three meals a day one pound each that is three pounds. |

I am 5’6”, on 1200/day + moderate exercise daily to lose 1 lb per week
1500/days sound a lot unless you are very actibe |
| Try cutting out all carb-based foods and add in some intermittent fasting too |
| I just did a keto calculator.... I am a bit taller than you and weight a bit less, but would like to lose a few lbs. I thought it was calculating weight loss, it told me that if eating 1500 calories even on keto, I would gain an lbs per month. The only thing that works for me is IF and atkins/paleo diet, and clearly under 1100 calories per day. |
| You're eating too much. Eat less. |

All this still does not explain how a person eliminating 500 calories per day would not lose weight over a 3 month period, especially when adding in the 4x week power walking.
Seems that it would not matter if a person is 5-2 or 5-11, or if one weighed 217 or 199. 500 calories less per day should result in some weight loss over a 3-month period. That is a lot of calories to give up. |

Here's a general weight loss rule: To maintain your weight eat 10X your weight in calories: 120 lb =1200 calories per day.
That is with zero exercise. If you add exercise you could eat more based on how many calories you burn. If you want to lose weight you should base your daily calorie intake on the weight you want to weigh: 115=1150 calories per day, this will likely result in a 1-2 lb per week loss, if you exercise too you will lose more/faster. |
| Are you gaining muscle? If so, the scale won't show progress, but your clothes might fit differently. |

I say keep going.
A friend of mine has worked out for four years straight, pretty much daily. It shows. But the whole point is to make it happen daily (or 3x/week, what have you) for a lot longer than until your weight loss goal is reached. If you ‘get there’ ... then what? You’ll need to maintain that weight too. This message is coming from someone whose weight has fluctuated despite working out for over a year. Dropped 10, back up to where it was, dropped 5 recently. Guess what.. the time that I went back up was when I was being really irregular about exercising or thinking about it. And most of the time, i haven’t dropped bc I’m gaining muscle, or that the scale doesn’t matter but that it’s stayed the same while my clothes fit SO much better. I exercise now 100% for how it helps my mood. The fitness is the bonus. I say just keep at it. |
| You need to ear more protein, less carbs and do some weight lifting. Push yourself to go from walking to running. |
| I am 5 2 as well and losing weight by eating about 1300 calories a day. I have gone from 145 to 139 in about 6 weeks. I walk at least two miles everyday and I do everything possible never to sit down. The good news is that I can tell my stomach has shrunk and I am full on fewer calories. Also I swear by a hard boiled egg and a small slice of avocado toast for breakfast, salad for lunch and small dinner! |

PP who is 5 2 and losing weight.
Get your thyroid tested! Ask for a full panel to also check for PCOS |

OP here. I cant run. Both knees have a torn meniscus. I power walk 45 minutes 4 mornings a week. I do Pilates for abdominals 2x per week and yoga 2 times per week. I don't think I need weights -- all those down dogs, headstands, shoulder stands, handstands, and planks do the same thing -- right? (My arms and shoulders look absolutely fab.)
1200 calories per day. Hmm. So you are saying a person needs to eliminate 800 calories per day to show any weight loss at all? I need to ask my dietician that one. Can anyone cite evidence to what they are recommending? Or is this all from personal experience? I think I will have my thyroid tested. |
