Magruder HS Shooting

But to not directly call for or announce the even temporary return of the SROs, which Alexandria did w/o a shooting, given guns at GB, Wooton and Wheaton in addition to the shooting just on Friday alone?!!! That is ONE DAY in MCPS.

They did announce that police would be at all high schools for the next week.

+1 Bring back the SROs. If PG county is good with them, then why is MCPS so against them. Are people in MCPS just snowflakes? Yes, they are I guess.

100% of MCPS principals were in favor of them. Funding for SROs comes not from MCPS but from the County. Elrich and the Council were against SROs.

https://www.mymcmedia.org/jawando-thankful-police-officers-out-of-schools-ready-for-next-steps/

Here's what Jawando said as the reason for getting rid of them:

“A big part of the harm is disproportionality in arrests and having police officers in the building leads to arrests when you don't have to. When you look at what happens down the line, you hear the term school to prison pipeline, a student gets arrested, particularly a student of color. We know half the students arrested are Black students, despite their population,” Jawando said. “We also know that students, for example just like the general public, Black students aren't more likely to use marijuana than white students, but they're getting arrested more for it. So that's part of the problem.”

So too many students of color were getting arrested.

Notice he never spoke about if these are bad arrests i.e. the cases are getting thrown out of court for lack of evidence, or police are being charged with false arrest. I wonder why?

because for 2 of those hours the shooter was in a classroom

But in the actually classy column is Stephanie Ramirez posting that the family declined to talk to reporters.

What on earth is this?? Your child is facing attempted murder charges, there is no real question who did it, and the victim is in surgery again fighting for his life and this is how you behave???
I don't even know what else to say

I don't think they have a choice but to bring them back given the community outrage, what happened at Magruder, and the uptick of violence in schools. They will never call it the "SRO program" though to save face since they were so adamant and confident about removing them. They'll essentially bring it back under a different name and will take credit for "reimagining" and "improving" it.

The pandemic has nothing to do with this school shooting. They need to stop blaming the pandemic.

Because when on lockdown, you can't leave the classroom.

Then why did the lockdown go on for 4 hours after the shooter was already under arrest?

What's gross is their negligence in being decent humans.
You have right AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

They should absolutely all be expelled and jailed.

I believe a teacher posted previously indicating that the police were in charge at that point. School admin was no longer making the call as to lifting the lockdown.
I imagine they were sweeping the building.
Agree it sounds like a lot, but I can see why, logistically, it was best to keep the kids in lockdown.

Also, their political career will be in jeopardy if they don't.

Oh Kevin Lewis, I guess they are not white and are not Hispanic.

Wait! You're blaming Lewis for reporting this? When do the vulture press not stalk the families regardless of their skin color??
Family doesn't like it, keep your head down and keep walking or find a back door.
Don't come strutting out there oozing attitude before the reporters even begin shouting questions.
The reporters were there because a press area was set up for the DA to make a statement.
The family came out that way deliberately. looking for a fight, just like their criminal son.

I’m not sure that I understand your point? They came through the door giving reporters the finger. When asked for comment said “mind your own f$@&ing business b$/@h”. Are we supposed to instead pretend that something else happened?

I didn’t click the link. Kevin only reports on Hispanic and black crime. So I didn’t need to click the link, the facts it’s KL says so much.

Get to know your local reporters to get balanced news.

Really? Are you sure you want to make this claim? Might want to think about the logical next fact.
Sadly reporters like Lewis are presented with an embarrassment of riches in MOCO 2022
Face facts

Several students who were in the bathroom at the time did. They tweeted @ the shooting rather than getting help for the victim.
