Do you have a link? I have been searching the news and do not see this.

Just read brief Wapo story. Locust st. Robbery. No details.

How would that help a school with poor performance? If you are so interested in improving a school by rezoning other people’s kids, put your own kid in a bad school and then discuss how the quality of his education is unchanged.

Then you will pay for private while subsidizing the public education of children other than your own, and the bond referenda will still pass.

And if too many of the parents of the children with the high scores simply pull them out of public school and put them elsewhere, scores go down.

So the county would get the taxes but not the children that help scores. FARMs percentage would substantially increase.

People have gotten tired of the obnoxious, entitled Langley families constantly claiming that, if they don’t get their way, they will take all their marbles and go home. Time to call their bluff. Let them move to Ashburn if they can’t handle being part of the same county as Herndon.

Entitled because we like our school and want our children to attend with their community?

Entitled because we dare to express an opinion about policies?

Ashburn is a lovely area but I prefer Great Falls. If I wanted to live in Ashburn, I would.

We have no problem being in the same county as Herndon.

It seems like you want us to BE Herndon, and not because you think Herndon is great and you want to spread the joy.

You think Herndon bites and you want us to feel the pain.

So sick of us yet constantly complaining that our children don't go to school in Herndon?

If we're so bad you should be glad that they don't.

Your “community” is mostly a string of subdivisions that attend middle and high schools in McLean, not Great Falls.

When you get reassigned to schools in Herndon, rather than McLean, the world will not come to an end.

The Titanic is sinking and you want to re-arrange the deck chairs.

FIX Herndon, don't just re-arrange students.

What do you think happened in Herndon? MC and UMC families who were unhappy with the schools for whatever reason moved, went private, or started homeschooling.

I know a woman who loves her neighbors. She lives in one of those areas with beautiful, well-maintained homes with mature trees and nice landscaping. She decided against Herndon schools but didn't want to move, so they stayed put and opted out.

I met a GF resident who is now an obnoxious Langley parent after leaving Herndon (where she was holy I am sure) due to the schools.

Herndon has at least one homeschool group. I guess they are obnoxious and entitled because they refuse to send their children to public school in Herndon. They live in Herndon, so maybe that saves them.

Herndon parents opted out if they decided the school wouldn't work for their children.

Why shouldn't we follow their example?

So you don't deny that you think Herndon sucks.

We do agree on that last point.

The world would not come to an end with a boundary change.

Though you won't get what you seem to want out of it.

Why are you surprised when people don’t respond to your bait? The burden isn’t on Herndon residents to respond to Great Falls residents claiming that Herndon “sucks.” The burden is in Great Falls residents to explain why they think it’s OK to take advantage of county resources when it suits them, yet also pretend to be an autonomous community to avoid an equitable share of the county’s students with greater educational needs.

Langley needs a makeover.

Who would you send to Langley? How would it help them?

Someone suggested Forest Edge. That would triple their commute and in no way help Herndon. In fact, it would liikely leave South Lakes underenrolled. Nevermind that Forest Edge likely would not like to move.

So, who would you send?

We aren't an autonomous community.

We are a community with a right to an opinion, even if you don't like it.

"Taking advantage of county resources"? We simply send our kids to public school. As for equity, Langley has not been treated fairly and McLean has not been treated fairly by keeping one school under enrolled and the other overcrowded with notable impacts on quality of life for both student populations.

Schools with higher percentages of FARMs kids receive extra money to provide more staff to meet their higher and different needs. And all of this advocating on the part of Herndon parents begins with "take some of these FARMs kids, they are wrecking our school." Not exactly charitable.

For the record, not everyone in Great Falls disagrees with the direction the school board is taking with the boundary policy revision.

If it affected you, you'd be screaming your head off and demanding that it be stopped immediately.

Langley just had a makeover and it looks great.

Herndon is getting one and it looks great.

I wish all the aging schools could be renovated more quickly. I think they said the cycle is something like 40 years.

It just wouldn't end my world.

No one claimed GF was autonomous. Can't you do any better than a straw man argument?

If a good percentage of us decide it no longer suits us to "take advantage" of Fairfax county public schools you will complain about that.
