What is Janie Strauss"s affiliation and what have Herndon parents been asking her for all these years?

During South Lakes redistricting, one of the proposals desired by SL PTA moms and Stu Gibson was for Armstrong and Aldrin to go to South Lakes and "unite" Reston. Aldrin and Armstrong parent leadership organized and fougth it. They did not wish to leave Herndon. As I recall, one of the reasons was that they were the PTA leadership. Herndon parents were upset--and one of the proposals also wished to send Coates area to Herndon, which would have meant additional low income to Herndon. Janie arranged to have the Coates area stay at Westfield and kept Armstrong and Aldrin at Herndon.

That's the only action that I know of that Strauss did. I guess Aldrin and Armstrong are in Dranesville? NOt sure if she did it for them or for other Herndon constituents.

I'm seriously asking what she has advocated for on Herndon's behalf.

Maybe for the renovation?

I doubt that she asked the school board to ship FARMs kids away, especially if non of you never asked.

Oh, I think she would happily ship out the FARMS kids now that she is not running for reelection.

Part of Coates goes to Herndon. All of it should go to Carson/Westfield. Strauss' also oversaw the boundary change to shift all of the poor out of McNair into Herndon ES, lifting McNair out of Title 1 status and giving it to HES instead. She had no idea this was going to happen? Why not more of a balance?

Sounds like Strauss was pretty actively engaged at various times.

Again, Karloutsos’ and Mobasheri’s campaigns exist for the sole reason of advancing the interests of Langley parents over those of others in Dranesville and the rest of the county.

I just looked at the boundary for the schools. Looks to me like those kids who go to Herndon from Coates should not be at Coates at all. There are just a handful on the other side of the DTR. And, McLean's boundaries look logical to me.

Any other lines would mean that kids should be shifted according to FARMS. Terrible idea.

I don't know any of those candidates. I do know that if we elect a fully Dem school board that no neighborhood will be exempt from busing. NOT Elementary, Middle, or High. That would be a terrible mistake. It will essentially eliminate community schools.

I certainly think that we should educate all the kids who are here--no matter how they came to be here. However, that is the greatest source of poverty in Herndon. We all know that. And, yet, the Democrats are the ones who vote for money to be used for legal aid for the undocumented to help stay here. Herndon has pretty much always been a sanctuary city and now all of Fairfax County is. And, yet, Herndon wants to kick these kids out of their school. Herndon is the way it is because they voted to be that way. Please explain why you should ship poor Herndon kids out of Herndon to school and bring in Great Falls kids.

That delegate guy is crazy. I cannot believe he got elected over a pretty solid veteran candidate. Herndon voters really need to wake up.

He's running unopposed this fall. Wish someone would start a strong write in movement.

I did not vote for this guy. I believe we should secure our borders. However, for the kids here now, they deserve better. They have many, many challenges, and should have a fighting chance at a good education. Overwhelming HHS is not the answer. HHS needs relief.

Yes, relief definitely for the town. Anyone see the news? Shoot out tonight in the middle of town, armed robbery last Sat at 12 noon on the W&OD trail not too far from the TOH border. Yes, relief is in order.

Do you have a link? I have been searching the news and do not see this.

If you try to put my kid in a bad school, I’ll switch him to private school and will vote “no” on every school bond vote to come, since you literally forced my hand. How would that help a school with poor performance? If you are so interested in improving a school by rezoning other people’s kids, put your own kid in a bad school and then discuss how the quality of his education is unchanged.

Then you will pay for private while subsidizing the public education of children other than your own, and the bond referenda will still pass.

And if too many of the parents of the children with the high scores simply pull them out of public school and put them elsewhere, scores go down.

So the county would get the taxes but not the children that help scores. FARMs percentage would substantially increase.
