SYC MLS Next

Wow, that's a significantly bigger travel commitment than ECNL. Wonder if that will factor into parents decisions.

Yes they play mls academies.

NO. MLS Next will play other "MLS Next" academies. Not MLS Academies. Don't get it confused.

From D.C. United the only age group that participates on it is U17. Interesting.

SYC MLS Next players will stay MLS Next and according to regulations cannot play anywhere else.

VA Union players, SYC B Team, MYS B Team can be guest players in SYC MLS Next games.

SYC B Team and MYS B Team players can be guest players on SYC MLS Next and/or VA Union. MLS Next has cap on how many guest players (13) can be in the guest player status.

I thought the regulations stated they couldn’t play high school soccer? Where does it state the player can’t be rostered on another club team?

Each Club's Roster may average no more than twenty-four (24) Players across each age group based on the minimum of 11 full-time Players and a
maximum of 13 Future Players. Pg.25

Clubs may not permit any full-time Club Player to participate in non- MLS NEXT soccer activities during the MLS NEXT Season, except as set forth in this Section and in connection with a Player’s National Team duty and/or Youth National Team Identification Center participation. pg. 15

U15 as well. And you don’t consider Philadelphia Union and Red Bull’s MLS academies, are you just being difficult?

Have these teams been decided? Are SYC kids staying MLS and McLean kids going ECNL? What is going to happen to the SYC coaches who are coaching ECNL???

Anyone know the answer to this question? Wondering the same thing...

For the 03/04 boys age group ecnl and MLSNEXT were at the same time and same field (one at a SYC field and two at a McLean field). McLean and SYC obviously are coordinating this and providing opportunities for boys at both clubs to figure out the best fit.

Are the teams going to be equal in strength?

Because the “sharing” is just through the alliance and the creation of Virginia Union and only for ECNL.
Both clubs were clear that the clubs will keep their separate identities and run separately outside of that... SYC will of course keep their best players for MLS Next. SYC probably applied for full pathway not knowing if they’d get approved. They wanted to have something to offer U15 and older and did the alliance with McLean so they could offer ECNL. All SYC will throw McLean’s way now are second tier players.

I wonder if McLean will pull out now (or just not take SYC players or use SYC coaches for ECNL). It seems like they gain nothing from this alliance

No. SYC is offering this opportunity to McLean Boys ECNL teams as well. If you check out tryout schedule for ECNL and MLSNext at least for 03/04, they are at same time same field (in locations in McLean and Springfield)

Allowing them to tryout for MLS Next team is different from taking them on the team. And is it fair that SYC keeps MLS Next but McLean had to turn over their slot to this alliance? I call foul

There's a problem, no matter how you do it. Right now if you took the best of both clubs you could probably just about make one and a half competitive teams in MLS Next or ECNL at U18/19, zero competitive teams at U17, U16, U15, and one competitive team at U14. If you beef up the MLS Next teams to try and avoid embarrassment, then you will deplete ECNL teams which are already struggling. Equally if you try and strengthen the ECNL teams then the MLS Next teams will be a disaster. If you try and make the teams equal in strength you will almost certainly fail on all fronts.

I agree, the ECNL team will emerge weaker than it was last year. They will loose players to SYC MLS Next, Loudoun ECNL and BRYC ECNL. There are McLean players at these tryouts.
