For the 03/04 boys age group ecnl and MLSNEXT were at the same time and same field (one at a SYC field and two at a McLean field). McLean and SYC obviously are coordinating this and providing opportunities for boys at both clubs to figure out the best fit.
Are the teams going to be equal in strength?
There's a problem, no matter how you do it. Right now if you took the best of both clubs you could probably just about make one and a half competitive teams in MLS Next or ECNL at U18/19, zero competitive teams at U17, U16, U15, and one competitive team at U14. If you beef up the MLS Next teams to try and avoid embarrassment, then you will deplete ECNL teams which are already struggling. Equally if you try and strengthen the ECNL teams then the MLS Next teams will be a disaster. If you try and make the teams equal in strength you will almost certainly fail on all fronts.
