It is just a question of who is likely to make those teams. SYC also has players coming in from other areas for those teams as well.

Well that's the thing with all of these alliances. What does "alliance" really mean when really any qualified player can come in a try for a spot? Very little really beyond optics.

Agreed!

It looks like Achilles got expanded age groups as well.

No idea why he was given this. He's a horrible coach.

I'm sure SYC is hoping for a big turn out. As it is, half of their 2007 MLS Next team is from the partnership from Manassas not SYC kids. And current 2008 MLS team top players are not from SYC either.

Yes i agree. the best is when they don't post the scores on the MLS next website but the club puts them up on instagram or facebook.

So you're telling me that my DS, should he be good enough, could have the opportunity to play in either MLS Next or ECNL instead of CCL?

Sign me up.

SYC boys 2007 MLS next are at the bottom of the MLS teams.

McLean 2007 ECNL is horrible too. This is going to be awesome!

I'm sure he's a horrible coach and Achilles is terrible. Please stop with this. Achilles has traveled up and down the east coast playing in MLS Next for nearly two seasons now. They've played against some of the best clubs in the country and been seen by all of those coaches and MLS Next officials. MLS Next has made the decision, based on style and quality of play, to offer more age groups to Achilles. That's a big achievement for them, especially considering the size of the club and the relatively small player pool. There are clearly disgruntled folks on here that take every chance to run down Sal and the program. I'm sorry it didn't work out for your kid and I hope they're succeeding and happy wherever they are now. I was at Achilles 2009 (rising U13 MLS Next) tryouts last night and what I saw was an excellent group of kids that all got along and had fun, participatory coaching, and a high level of quality and speed of play.

Finally . . . . please, please don't trot out the tired trope accusing any positive commenter of being Sal.

Why wouldn’t the Manassas kids become full members of SYC now that a new season is around the corner? If they are good enough to play and get significant minutes, surely they are good enough to just straight up join SYC.

Maybe they like the flexibility to play on two teams. Maybe they like their manassas coach and the players they play with.

Can someone explain this part-time MLS Next player option? I’ve never heard about it. Could the Virginia Union ECNL players potentially be part-time MLS Next players as well?

If you want your kid to tryout for MLSNEXT, have them register directly with SYC, Alexandria or Bethesda.

Virginia Union is an alliance not a Club.
