I just went down a fascinating internet rabbit hole thinking about this question hahaha!

To me it has nothing at all to do with their clothes. First, for me, is the hair. I would hate that haircut on any human. It looks like a combination of a Karen and a little boy and it immediately frames them as effeminate/childlike in the mind of my ovaries.

They simply don’t have many features that are traditionally seen as masculine traits like broad shoulders (it’s possible they have these IRL), facial and body hair, a remotely weathered appearance. This again, isn’t a criticism it’s personal preference. I have never understood what anyone found attractive about Justin Beiber and he has seemed childlike, effeminate and masculine at different points in his career.

What do you think effeminate means? I’m trying to figure out why you think they don’t come across that way.

Here is a pic of one of them where I think they look masculine

[gif]https://giphy.com/gifs/jimin-HFVDkLir37H7a[/gif]

I think I figured it out looking at the pictures though. They look like kids, I don’t think they are but they look so young. I think it’s the lack of body hair, the haircuts, and the smooth skin on their faces. And I think they’ll be crazy attractive to teens who are still into young boys. It’s the classic pretty boy thing. Is some people’s cup of tea and not others

See, this is really what it's about. Because they do have broad shoulders

What it really comes down to is western women (and I am one!) have been trained by the media to associate weathered, wrinkled, nasty skin with "masculinity" along with excessive body hair. And it's really crazy when you think about it. Of course smooth skin can be masculine along with not being covered in nasty hair with some bushy beard. Good for them for taking care of themselves. I love it!

I’m with you on some of that. Hair isn’t always nasty. Plenty of attractive masculine men are also clean. Why denigrate others to lift them up. This is personal preference. There’s nothing wrong with it and I have idea how I would ever go about changing who I’m attracted to (nor would I want to)

I mean how are we allowed to have an honest discussion about things without acknowledging things honestly? Yes, wrinkles are generally considered unattractive as is hairiness. Sorry if that offends you. Anyway, if that's your preference you'll probably have your pick of things.

And you might thing about unpacking that and why you have the preferences you do. Or dont, and keep banging balding wrinkled hairballs. Your choice.

My husband isn’t balding or wrinkled so probably not.

People find who they find attractive and yes that is formed by impressions made in their youth by their culture and idols and peers. Not sure what I gain from ‘unpacking’ that but you used your woke vocabulary so go you! And I’m a super liberal person fwiw

I don’t understand why it’s important to you that everyone find them attractive, and that if you don’t find them attractive than you need to introspect to wonder why. I don’t think men who aren’t into Angelina Jolie have to do that.

You claim to be super liberal but refuse to acknowledge a racial/cultural bias implicit in your idea of what is attractive? Maybe you're not as liberal as you thought. And I dont know why youre so offended by the idea of just taking a look at your preferences and what they've been influenced by. Defensive much?

Soooo our only choices are a Paul Giamatti look alike or BTS?! Well damn, let me go tell my husband that it’s not going to work out bc he looks like neither of these men.

Who are you women that think the only other option besides this group are horribly aging men?! My husband has always had beautiful skin. He doesn’t look weathered and doesn’t look effeminate either. He isn’t overweight with excessive body hair or hairless either. I’m baffled by the whole, you either find this boy group attractive or you only find Sasquatch attractive.

Some look so young!

I find many many many Korean men hot AF, but I will at least admit anonymously that I was very, very rarely attracted to Chinese men when I lived in HK and Singapore (and before we get going, YES there are lots more Asian ethnicity but I feel weird putting out some kind of 'ranking' on how hot I found the men on my travels, so I'll stick to the ones I have lived in)-

Its not a feminitiy thing, its a stature thing. Which I think you can easily confuse with feminine but its not the same- maybe in the USA its the same but certainly not in other parts of the world. Heck, male members of my family born and raised in S. Europe carry full on cross body bag/ purses! Korean men tend to be taller and broader and being a western woman who is in good shape but still 5'9", it just felt less attractive to smaller men and less attracted to them. I am much, much, much more drawn to bulkier type dudes, but I don't find them to be less masculine if they wax their chests or get manis or wear designer clothes (DH is practically hairless, genetically)

I do get that makeup is seen as feminine and some women are not in to that, musicians across space and time have bent this norm though- so I'm sure they probably weren't into it when it was Fall Out Boy style smokey eyes either.

Korean born there and raised here. I don't find BTS attractive- they've had every inch of their natural look plastic surgery'd out of them! To me, they look fake and unnatural. As someone upthread said, their "work ethic" is exploitative in nature. I see it in my nephews and nieces who come home from their study school (to which they go right after regular school) at 11pm, with barely time to eat more than a protein bar for dinner.

Jackson Wang (GOT7) is a Korean Idol recruited from HK. Jackson is one of the most attractive KPOP Idols IMHO.

FWIW I am one of the pps who finds BTS to be overly effeminate (without putting a value judgement beyond my own personal preferences on that word) and this guy is much more attractive to me. Might be the hat!
