I love these cute Korean boys! What do the jaded DCUMers think of BTS?
|
| Super k-pop aesthetic. Teeny-bopper feel by American standards. I'm happy they are doing well in the US market. |
| I like Blackpink better. |
| I love them. They are so cute and polite during interviews. I like their songs because they are fun and don’t have sexual lyrics. Boy with Luv is my favorite. |
| Watching them makes me realize how degenerate American culture is. We cant have a single boy band here (or in England) without them having to give interviews about their sexuality or drugs and them alluding to these things on social media, trying to seem edgy. Which would be fine, I guess- if their fanbase wasn't primarily kids! I love that BTS has stayed wholesome, happy and just GOOD- they just seem like nice, good guys. it really proves a stark contrast to the "you must be shocking" culture we have with our pop stars here. I know which I prefer |
Me too |
It’s not a competition, you can like more than one Korean group. Go watch Ice Cream all you want. Army won’t stop you. |
| Very harsh Kpop system in Korea. Overwork young people in training and beyond. Rife with sexual abuse. Drug abuse. |
| I think they're all so attractive! Never really had a thing for Asian guys before, but man- now I get it! They are extremely handsome |
| It's supposed to be a pretty harsh industry, isn't it? Kpop, that is. |
PP here. I’m actually Korean, but thanks for the FYI.

That’s Korean culture! All the groups are like that. Even the “edgier” or more “grown up” groups are barely pushing the envelope by Western standards. The flip side of that is that ANY scandal can negatively affect a career, or even sink it. And their scandals are things that would barely register for Americans/Westerners - like members openly dating, or being caught with marijuana. |
Different than Hollywood and music industry how? |
I really might have to consume more Korean culture then, cause i get so exhausted with the constant dark stuff in western media. I worked for a Korean lady and she was so harsh- if you messed up once it was the end of the world and she'd let you have it. It was actually very stressful and hard. But I researched it and I guess in Korean culture people are expected to really work, and work, and keep working, to an extent that we find kind of shocking in the west. I will say when I left that job my stamina and ability to focus was at an all time high because she was so rigorous. So ultimately it did help me a bit, as hard as it was to go through |
| I've never seen Kpop before and I liked it a lot. Love their dance moves. The only thing I don't like is their hair... I like long hair too but not bowl cuts. |
