I think its bizarre the folks who comment about gas mileage when they are living in big houses, and probably not doing much for the environment except commenting. I'm not angry. I love my Jeep and don't understand the hate. Its been very reliable and fun to drive. Its also helpful where we live as the roads are not well maintained. |

I drive a fifth generation Jeep Cherokee, no, not the Grand Cherokee. It's based on a more modern unibody design so it's a bit lighter and more car like. It still sits higher and has AWD which is handy but no off road. The other half is a first responder so we needed at least on vehicle than can manage poor road conditions. I splurged on the 3.2L engine and with the lower weight it's pretty sprightly.
No repairs yet except for replacing the Firestone tires with real tires. |

I miss the old boxy Cherokee with solid axles front and rear and the 4.0L engine.
Gawd those were great. Absolutely loved mine. Was heartbroken when I got rammed from behind at a stoplight by a drunk driver. That Jeep protected me even as it was dying. Sniffff..... |

BTW not all Jeeps guzzle gas. I owned an 1988 Wrangler back in day. Was 4 cylinder with a stick shift. It also had no AC and “shift on the fly” meaning I could keep it in two wheel drive and shift to 4 wheel drive even while driving
Wrangles still come in 4 cylinders with a stick and no AC |

A RAV4 looks like a vehicle a baby boomer would drive.
I can see why a teen would like a jeep. |
| Your daughter can get the off road pass for Assateague with a Jeep. It is great! |
Love it. |
My 84 year old mother has the Subaru Outback. It is not a teen car. The Rav4 is another boomer vehicle. Not a jeep. |
They are coming out with a diesel and either hybrid or electric, I forget. |
It's not shocking because I don't research new cars. It's a shockingly bad financial decision to buy a new car. |
We keep ours a very long time so its not a bad investment. I do know about it and I'd prefer new. When I looked at used the cost/benefit wasn't there as most 1-3 years old had very high miles which then took away the factory warrenty. |
| If your mid 20s DD is paying for it, she can buy whatever she wants. A Jeep is not such a great choice on mnay different fronts if she doesn't plan to go off road, but she can find that out for herself. It might be a good lesson, if it's her money. |
