Seriously.  Almost no 4WD/AWD in the country ever are driven off road.  They are purely vanity cars.

Why does anyone in this region need an AWD or a high clearance car?  Maybe once every 3 or 4 years do we get enough snow where it is needed.

I'm not compensating for anything. I'm enjoying myself. I like driving up rocky/muddy trails in Virginia or Pennsylvania, and going camping way up high in the mountains at GWNF, in places that are too far up into the mountains to hike to with a campsite worth of gear. We bring our huge 18" reflector telescope and look at stars and galaxies and nebulae, stuff you can't see without being way up in the mountains above the valley fog and far from city lights.

We do similar trips but we rent a 4WD since we don’t need it for our daily driver. Gas savings alone on our commute pays for rental.

I think its bizarre the folks who comment about gas mileage when they are living in big houses, and probably not doing much for the environment except commenting.  I'm not angry.  I love my Jeep and don't understand the hate.  Its been very reliable and fun to drive.  Its also helpful where we live as the roads are not well maintained.[/quote]
