Nothing against tall boots, but this would look better (and more professional) with low heels.

This my go to look and I get compliments.

Probably makes your life easier to wear the same clothing style for 15 plus years

Lol, this is how my SIL dresses all the time. She showed up to a hockey game in this almost exact get-up last season. DH and I just laugh, because it's not a good look, and really not a good look on her.

Your husband laughs at his sister's (very normal looking) outfits?

Wow. Nice family.

I was just about to say that. Nice family.
And, FWIW, I dislike the outfit above.

Hockey game in that? A plus. Where are the leggings or sweats? The fleece or sweatshirt? The uggs or nikes? Looks like she actually changed after getting out of bed before she went to the game so good job!

OP, it's funny you posted this. Over the weekend we were out to a trendy restaurant and hung out in the bar before our table was ready. I noticed that probably 1/3 of the women were wearing tall boots over pants (jeans, black jeans, etc.), and I was thinking (per DCUM and a few fashion blogs) that this look was supposed to be "out." But these were women, younger and older, stylish, put together, and tall boots over pants was definitely NOT out in this crowd.

I don't think this look is as out or dated as the fashionistas proclaim it is.

Same experience, except people-watching in both suburban mall and downtown restaurant. Of the 20-something and under crowd, I'd also say about 1/3 were in boots over jean/leggings/some casual-ish pant. Some looked stylish, some just practical.

Also, definitely think that when it gets actually cold around here, no one wants cropped/ankle pants and bootie. It doesn't say fashion, it just screams fashion victim.

Sort of like a Western wear sort of approach? This is a professional conference, and the look is pants, tall boots over pants, long suit jacket, tailored blouse. Lots of scarves, too (more than I expected).

What say you? I always liked the tall boots, but I’ve succumbed to DCUM pressure and put them in the back of my closet.

Southern women aren't exactly the epitome of fashion, OP.

Compared to DC ladies, they certainly are.

Beautiful, classy, modern.

Who spends that much $ for a pair of boots and then puts them in the back of their closet b/c of something they read on a computer? Gals, think about it.

Surely people realize that popular, stylish, trendy, fashionable are all different things, though there are degrees of overlap at times. A popular look may or may not be trendy or fashionable, and can be popular either way.
