Since this look is purportedly “out,” and considering I rarely see this look as much in DC/MD, I’m wondering whether there’s a southern aspect to continuing to wear tall boots in VA? Sort of like a Western wear sort of approach? This is a professional conference, and the look is pants, tall boots over pants, long suit jacket, tailored blouse. Lots of scarves, too (more than I expected).
What say you? I always liked the tall boots, but I’ve succumbed to DCUM pressure and put them in the back of my closet.

When will you learn that you should wear exactly what suits you and makes you happy? When you're on your death bed, and it's too late? |
Southern women aren't exactly the epitome of fashion, OP. |
| In my book, which admittedly has some strange points of view, tall boots over pants are acceptable if and only if there is significant snow cover on the ground. The women at your conference are démodées. |
| I've seen it too in DC, but I think it just looks dated. Different parts of the country pick up on trends at different rates though. And you don't have to put your tall boots away, I'm wearing mine right now with a dress |
| That is weird. I would not wear boots over pants for a pro conference. |
I’m in my 50s and I’m a cancer survivor, so...I think I have a decent perspective. I’ve learned that I enjoy wearing clothing that helps me blend in professional situations.

Agree- are these tight pants? |
| Is this a MLM conference? |
+1 2003 just arrived south now, OP. What you describe is a very Disney look, by the way of "Kate plus 8" short haircut. |
| Pants are black/dark, slim fitting, and no...not MLM. Major conference attended by government associations. |
Actually this is perfectly acceptable year round look if you have fungus and or when you work with menuer. |
| Tall boots are ok with skirts |
Slim black pants and tall black boots seems timeless imo. But the style of the boot changes. |
| Also seeing so many ponchos here! Sorry, I’m entertaining myself with DCUM while at the meet and greet. Clearly my networking game isn’t on point. |
