At a work conference in VA & fully half the women are wearing tall boots over pants

Hey OP, Tokyo, Milan and Paris thanks you are totally out of style too. So stop being so smug. Only insecure people care so much about other people who “are out of style’.

+1

2003 just arrived south now, OP. What you describe is a very Disney look, by the way of "Kate plus 8" short haircut.

it’ll make it to the midwest in five years or so.

Nope, not realtors.

Property managers?

No, the OP said govt workers.

Anyways, the look OP describes reminds me of the jockeys I used to see riding horses at the racetrack that my mom took me too as a little girl.

Can't imagine this look at a work conference. While fine for a trip to Target or the movies certainly not appropriate for a work conference.

Oooohhhh...she said the "D" word!

I'm a fed and if you think we are fashionable you are so wrong. I'm lucky if my coworkers shower, brush their teeth and wear clean clothes every day. Please see the posts about people changing sheets monthly, towels when they smell and pants almost never.

What are you wearing,OP? A teddy bear coat?

Anonymous wrote:OP, it's funny you posted this. Over the weekend we were out to a trendy restaurant and hung out in the bar before our table was ready. I noticed that probably 1/3 of the women were wearing tall boots over pants (jeans, black jeans, etc.), and I was thinking (per DCUM and a few fashion blogs) that this look was supposed to be "out." But these were women, younger and older, stylish, put together, and tall boots over pants was definitely NOT out in this crowd.

I don't think this look is as out or dated as the fashionistas proclaim it is.

A lot of us don't change our wardrobes every year as fashions change. I go for professional, not fashionable.

This look has been around for 15 years! I have pictures from college wearing similar outfits.

I agree that changing your wardrobe every year is too much, but you should update once a decade... Come on!

It was around in the 80s and 90s too. Which is why I argue that it’s classic, the boots just change style.

Are they from warmer climates? I feel like people from warmer climates get really excited to pile on all their "fall" clothing when they travel to somewhere that is slightly chillier. OTOH, I think someone from Minnesota probably would think this weather is very mild.

I am a sub at our ES. Almost all the teachers wear tall boots still. Recess is COLD!

The outfit sounds a bit "off." I would wear slim pants tucked into boots with a sweater, on a semi-casual day at work. For a conference, I'd wear a pantsuit with dress shoes or a dress and blazer.

Are you talking about over the knee boots?

Anonymous wrote:Since this look is purportedly “out,” and considering I rarely see this look as much in DC/MD, I’m wondering whether there’s a southern aspect to continuing to wear tall boots in VA? Sort of like a Western wear sort of approach? This is a professional conference, and the look is pants, tall boots over pants, long suit jacket, tailored blouse. Lots of scarves, too (more than I expected).

What say you? I always liked the tall boots, but I’ve succumbed to DCUM pressure and put them in the back of my closet.

The only way I would consider wearing this is with a jockey styling, i.e. jodhpurs or thick leggings in jockey styled boots. I also would not be wearing this to a conference. The boots ALSO would not have heels.

And the only pants that look good with tall boots over them are tightish pants with stirrups. Otherwise no matter how skinny, the pantleg will bunch over the boot and destroy your leg line. Very skinny jeans can qualify as long as there is no bunching over the boot.
