What’s wrong with open borders? (nothing, actually)

I vote no!

Democrats don't care.

True that. Let’s just give our country away.
Said every 2020 democratic presidential candidate.

Beat me to it. I would assume anyone advocating for open borders has:

- No locks on their doors
- No fence around their yard
- No password on their wifi (it's the owners' fault if it slows down!)
- No issues with strangers camping in their yard or sleeping on their couch.
- No issues with people picking their flowers, eating vegetables in their garden, etc.

This is the problem with NIMBYism. Concepts like open borders sound great until you deal with the pragmatic realities. The EU has open borders within, but absolutely does not have open borders with the rest of the world.

This.

I live in Montgomery County and see on a daily basis what illegal immigration has done to my previously solid Middle class neighborhood. Easy to advocate for illegal immigration when you only benefit from it (cheap labor for your landscaping and child care and housecleaning needs). Harder when it affects your kids’ schools.

Fully agree

No to open borders. Most of you can't comprehend the ramifications of open borders. You really need to sit down and analyze what it means. Stop being so emotional. Emotion alone will take you down the wrong path and eventually to disaster.

Well, if your child is in GT, Honors, and AP classes, you are protected in schools.

Yes, it has worked splendidly in Europe. Imbecile.

Hey MAGAts, here's a tip for you:

Practical, sensible, HUMANE immigration policy (which is what literally every Democrat in the public eye supports) is not a call for "open borders." You're being lied to when you're told otherwise, and you're lying when you parrot that line.

In that case you have to vote for Trump. Democrats have certainly embraced open borders.

It’s all just emotional drivel, you Dimwit. Open borders don’t work. They hurt Americans and legal immigrants. It opens up the country to the crimes of human trafficking, terrorism, illegal trade. It is impossible to vet who is coming here with open borders.

*Whoosh*

I'll try again: Any claim that any serious person wants open borders is a LIE.

Allowing families to stay together is NOT supporting "open borders".
Allowing temporary entry pending an asylum hearing is NOT supporting "open borders".
Providing a path to citizenship for certain undocumented aliens who meet a very specific set of standards is NOT supporting "open borders".
Opposing policies that are ill-conceived, impractical, ineffective and inhumane is NOT supporting "open borders".
Opposing that moronic wall is NOT supporting "open borders".

You can have border security without cruelty, demagoguery and bigotry. That's not "supporting open borders," it's simply refusing to be complete and utter assholes about it.

It is not cruelty and bigotry. We don’t have the resources to take care of the world’s economic migrants who cross the border. If we import enough of the third world, we will become the third world ourselves. We can offer support to make other countries better, so that they don’t have to leave. We can’t even help our own poor, and illegal immigration certainly takes resources away from them. I would like to stop corporate welfare and needless wars, and give this money to better our infrastructure, schools, and institutions that help the poor. Even if that happens, the money is not unlimited and nothing is free. The rich will find a way not to pay taxes. Jeff Bezos didn’t pay any. It is the middle class who will have to pay for all this virtue-signaling insanity.

I don't disagree, necessarily, with any of that except your first sentence. The policies implemented by this administration are indisputably cruel and inhumane, and this administration is clearly driven by bigotry in its choices.

Well, I would argue that the cruelty comes from people who encourage illegal immigration. That was NOT Trump.

People see illegal immigration as a very viable option for economic success in the US. If that was not the case, people would not be coming.

Nobody "encourages" illegal immigration, you dope. Peoples' circumstances encourage illegal immigration, and no bullshit wall or jackboot detention policy is going to change peoples' circumstances.
