What’s wrong with open borders? (nothing, actually)

Beat me to it. I would assume anyone advocating for open borders has:

- No locks on their doors
- No fence around their yard
- No password on their wifi (it's the owners' fault if it slows down!)
- No issues with strangers camping in their yard or sleeping on their couch.
- No issues with people picking their flowers, eating vegetables in their garden, etc.

This is the problem with NIMBYism. Concepts like open borders sound great until you deal with the pragmatic realities. The EU has open borders within, but absolutely does not have open borders with the rest of the world.

This.

I live in Montgomery County and see on a daily basis what illegal immigration has done to my previously solid Middle class neighborhood. Easy to advocate for illegal immigration when you only benefit from it (cheap labor for your landscaping and child care and housecleaning needs). Harder when it affects your kids’ schools.

Fully agree

Nations are just 20th century history and belong in the past. We are one people, one race, the Human race and open borders will help make that a reality.

Can you tell me what country has open borders? Which countries exemplify your statement?

The European Union has no borders. They freely take in millions of people who are fleeing poverty and war. As rich former colonizers, we all have an obligation to lift up those who need our help. We owe it to them for all the violence and exploitation we inflicted upon them.

They do not "freely take in millions of people." There were millions of EU residents who were very much against the enormous numbers of migrants taken in by leaders such as Angela Merkel. Only in retrospect did EU leadership realize and admit their mistake.

Exactly. Several countries just said no to the massive invasion, including Denmark. Good for them!

It’s all just emotional drivel, you Dimwit. Open borders don’t work. They hurt Americans and legal immigrants. It opens up the country to the crimes of human trafficking, terrorism, illegal trade. It is impossible to vet who is coming here with open borders.

*Whoosh*

I'll try again: Any claim that any serious person wants open borders is a LIE.

Allowing families to stay together is NOT supporting "open borders".
Allowing temporary entry pending an asylum hearing is NOT supporting "open borders".
Providing a path to citizenship for certain undocumented aliens who meet a very specific set of standards is NOT supporting "open borders".
Opposing policies that are ill-conceived, impractical, ineffective and inhumane is NOT supporting "open borders".
Opposing that moronic wall is NOT supporting "open borders".

You can have border security without cruelty, demagoguery and bigotry. That's not "supporting open borders," it's simply refusing to be complete and utter assholes about it.

It is not cruelty and bigotry. We don’t have the resources to take care of the world’s economic migrants who cross the border. If we import enough of the third world, we will become the third world ourselves. We can offer support to make other countries better, so that they don’t have to leave. We can’t even help our own poor, and illegal immigration certainly takes resources away from them. I would like to stop corporate welfare and needless wars, and give this money to better our infrastructure, schools, and institutions that help the poor. Even if that happens, the money is not unlimited and nothing is free. The rich will find a way not to pay taxes. Jeff Bezos didn’t pay any. It is the middle class who will have to pay for all this virtue-signaling insanity.

I don't disagree, necessarily, with any of that except your first sentence. The policies implemented by this administration are indisputably cruel and inhumane, and this administration is clearly driven by bigotry in its choices.

Well, I would argue that the cruelty comes from people who encourage illegal immigration. That was NOT Trump.

People see illegal immigration as a very viable option for economic success in the US. If that was not the case, people would not be coming.

Nobody "encourages" illegal immigration, you dope. Peoples' circumstances encourage illegal immigration, and no bullshit wall or jackboot detention policy is going to change peoples' circumstances.

Open arms and lots of free stuff helps.

I vote no!

As do millions of sane Americans.

In that case you have to vote for Trump. Democrats have certainly embraced open borders.

I plan on it.

We’ve been imported the third world Irish and Italians just a few decades ago. And even now the legal immigrants are mostly from third world India and China and they are doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs. It is the lazy, entitled natives in Appalachia, Alabama, MS , AR etc who are making America the third world.

Why am I a racist when I tell the truth. The ones who are here for generations have truly become lazy and entitled. How else will you explain the chronic drug issues, suicide, reliance on invented disability for years. And they end up voting for the demagogue, Russian puppet because he makes them feel they are just alright it’s just these immigrants who steal their jobs. Let us be honest, immigrants are so much more hard working and aren’t entitled because they have nothing here and have to build from scratch. The secret to America’s virility is constant stream of immigrants who keep it competitive.

The biggest threat to America is the rich getting richer because of tax cut after tax cuts. This incentives capital over hard work and initiative because the middle class wages has been stagnant for decades while the top 10% have risen disproportionately.

These are all things that help the middle class, duh.

Dummy, who do you think will pay for all of that? The middle class.
It most assuredly will not help them.

Allowing temporary entry is, in practical terms, open borders. None of our dearly beloved illegals seem to ever show up to their hearingS.

Let the GOP and the conman puppet pass mandatory e-verify if they are half way serious about actually fixing Illegal immigration. Otherwise they are just fooling the rubes of the cult while they benefit by pocketing extra $$$ by hiring illegals. Anyone who opposes mandatory e-verify is for illegal immigration. Period.

E-verify does not solve the problem of the people picked up at the 7/11. E-verify does not solve the problem of fake SSN. I support E-verify, but it is only as good as what is put in the program.

If you support e-verify then why aren’t you blaming the conman and gop for not taking any step to pass it? E-verify will solve a big chunk of the problem. People don’t come to America on the off chance they could get work for few hours if they got picked up outside the 711. This is why you are a rube and poorly educated that the conman loves because you can’t reason. People come for steady jobs provided by employers like TRUMp who don’t use e-verify. The first thing the conman did was to double the h2b quota after he became president so he can get as many immigrants for waiter jobs as he wants and not recruit Americans and pay much more. That’s why he doesn’t have a-verify in all his properties. That’s why the business doesn’t support mandatory e-verify. Why not go after them? Of course not, then who will pay for the election expenses of GOP politicians? Rubes like you don’t have the millions that the business has .
