First off there are multiple posters here and nobody knows exactly who you're talking about. We just have some sort of mystery beef that started with a "no comment" that won't go away, and another line of posts that appear to say "go look for yourself and make up your own mind" |
Not PP. How is this a "mystery beef"? I see posts from Page 1 about this and one poster that keeps saying "There in no problem in McLean, blah, blah, blah." OP is asking specifically about 2006 girls and the next gens, not how great other parts of McLean are. |
| The 01s won big time this weekend. Geez |
After reading this whole thread, I've learned two things about Mclean: 1 - If you are a U-little, avoid Mclean like the plague because there is a really bad coach there messing up the girls program for a lot of people; and 2 - If you are U13 or above ECNL player, then other then 2006 squad, consider ID'ing for one of these other teams if you can get Clyde Watson. Like PP, I am interested in #2 given that there are several ECNL and Academy teams nearby. Does Clyde have better coaching skills then his peers, or does he just have the best network to get placed? I understand the recruitment pitch for him, but what is different in the training? |
| Please explain what sets CW apart. He is a very good coach for girls. His approach works for many girls and he is a good trainer but how does he compare to the other coaches inside of and outside of McLean. I get the sense that Clyde develops the players and then moves them up to other coaches as they get older. |
Update: the 06s won too. Now 1-7-0 with 3 goals scored and 32 let in. 10th place. Geez |
Not sure what age groups Clyde coaches now, but he has coached several high school aged girls teams to national championships, he coached the Washington Freedom back in the hey day before the women's league went defunct and reincarnated to what it is now, coached boys teams before that, and has been honored as national youth coach of the year. Clyde was a great player at Clemson way back when--he played for the great Dr. I. M. Ibrahim and won a ton of ACC titles and possibly a natty. He was on the famous Clemson team that had Big Clyde and Little Clyde--he was the latter. The guy just really knows soccer. He is thoughtful, and always prepared. His training sessions are purposeful and players are always engaged. Soccer is the guy's life, in addition to his wonderful spouse and his kids. He just really knows soccer, and has been able to educate, prepare and motivate thousands of players over the years. Maybe six or seven years ago, the NCAA women's final four had at least one of his former players on each team. That's remarkable. There is a lot that sets Clyde apart. |
Cool. The 01s won 16-1 lol |
you know a lot about him, how come you don't know which teams he currently coaches? are you saying you are not with mclean? have you ever had one of your daughters coached by him? |
i think it is like having a scout for a coach. if he ever leaves, it would be bad. |
| People, this isn't that hard, its right on their website. Clyde coaches U14 G ECNL, U13 B Green (just below ECNL team), and co-coaches with Cindi the U15 G ECNL. |
+1 Agree with this. And we are at the club! |
well, thx, you could have checked before you posted |
| Helpful insights on Clyde. I have seen him from the other side and know girls on his team but was interested in knowing what makes him great. |

The only info you’ll get on CW is what the PP is providing about his talent ID ability and history.
I’m not sure is talent ID is super special as his reputation has solid players coming to him, but he can confirm that players are good. As far as passing girls up to older teams, the older girls have enough incoming talent that I might be sceptical of the connection of the 2. |
