If you're willing to go up to CMI and you value language, I'm surprised you don't have Stokes Spanish on your list. That and Bethune, which is outside of common lottery, are both in Brookland not much farther away than ITS.

We struck out in the Brent IB lottery two years ago, and most other Ward 6 programs, and landed at Appletree LP. Appletree didn't work well for us - kid was often in trouble, considered a discipline problem and an academic straggler. Other LP families there had similar experiences. To us, the Appletree curriculum was a K curriculum, not a preschool or prek curriculum. Once we got to Brent for K, teacher considered child well-behaved and an advanced learner. Looking back on it, really wish we'd stayed at the Hill Preschool or gone elsewhere, even if the commute wasn't so hot. It wasn't unusual for our kid to come home from LP in tears (after not having received enough "stars" to get a "prize" at the end of the school day, like most of the other "scholars").

Thank you for reminding me why we turned down Appletree in favor of a DCPS last year!

It's possible that Appletree wasn't the right fit for your child. However, isn't it also possible that your child may have had some difficulties or sensitivities while at Appletree that resolved over time? Just wondering whether there could be a developmental explanation, vs. something the school was doing wrong. Hard to know either way for sure.

I'm also IB for West. I think it's shocking that you would list Height and leave Powell, Barnard and Haynes off altogether.

We only included Height as a backup just in case we don't get into West.
We didn't include Powell since it's unlikely we would get in OOB, and we like West about as much. We also prefer West over Haynes, and we would unlikely get into Haynes (conditional on not getting into West).

I haven't look into Barnard yet. Thanks for the advice!

In bounds for Hearst - so that's number one.

Applying for PK 4.

Any ideas for other schools to list? And how to rank, based on your experience?

Work from home, so anything in the area - closer the better - but also feasible to get into/accepting OOB.

I don't think there is a big chance that any of the WOTP schools will be accepting OOB in PK4. You'll have to expand your choices to EOTP.

We went back and forth on this quite a bit but decided to put a hard stop on 10 minutes of car commute. We noticed once we started creeping it was like "we'll, if we're willing to do 10 why not 15 and if 15 why not 20..."

How is CMI 10 minutes from Garrison boundary? Have you looked at TR4, Lee or Bruce Monroe? (You say language, but ITS and CMI aren't language schools).

Garrison boundary goes all the way up to Euclid, from 14th to Sherman - on then northern end of that zone, it's definitely under 10 minutes to CMI by car.
