You do realize that you will likely get in to Shepherd and ITS and CMI will fall off your list entirely? |
Yes. Shepherd is my #1 choice. Thanks. I've been in this rodeo before
Only added a few others on the off chance that not all IB kids get into Shepherd. Yes, I know that means that I would have a bad lottery number and still wouldn't get into either anyway. Basically I just threw those in there as they are the only other schools we want. |

Applying for PK3 and ive in SW DC (though IB for Van Ness) Van Ness Appletree SW Amidon I know that's not many options, but I feel reasonably confident we will get into at least one. We are also looking at one private (Catholic) school. Worst case scenario, we will just pay for daycare for one more year, since we're at a federal center and the cost goes way down for 3 year olds. |
We are IB for Shepherd and are happy with our experience thus far in the lower grades. Also know happy families at Inspired and CMI. Good luck--all good choices! |
Are there any OOB students in your child(ren)'s grade(s)? We are zoned for Whittier but are considering putting Shepherd on our preK3 list. Just not sure if it's at all worthwhile if not even all IB children are getting in. |
What about Tyler? |

PK4
EoTR DCPS currently, will be fine staying. ITS Creative Minds Stokes |
Personally I would choose schools that had a HS track over ones that don't. Because Latin has such a small number of kids admitted each year for 5th (90) and almost half those go to siblings with preference usually, I would put that as my number one. That way if I didn't get it I would at least be waitlisted. Putting it so low will get you knocked out immediately if you don't get placed there initially. Just a thought. |

PK3
Ross (IB) Francis Stevens Seaton Garrison Appletree CH Thinking we'll end up at Garrison unless we have a great draw, which would be fine |

PK3
Brent (IB) Van Ness SWS Appletree LP Tyler Spanish Appletree SW |
Unless you have an older sibling at Brent, you might consider adding Tyler Traditional too. Maybe Capitol Hill Montessori too? And if you really need public preschool, the Appletree near RFK and Friendship Chamberlain. There aren't many sure things on Capitol Hill these days though. |

We're entering the lottery for our rising 4th grader
Two Rivers Cap City Inspired Teaching Creative Minds SWS Trying to figure out if there's anywhere else to try. Maybe Bridges? IB is Browne. |
No sibling. And yes, we will likely add those and others to round out our 12 choices. However we will probably stay in private daycare if we don't get one of our top picks. |
PP here. I don't have a kid in PK3 this year, but my understanding is that with the opening of a second PK3 class this year, several OOB families were able to lottery in. It's possible that there will be more IB PK3 families in the lottery this time, but who knows--might be worth a shot to list Shepherd if you have a spot open on your lottery list. |
But Latin is not our top choice. We'd rather have DD at 2R til 8th grade and then move/go private/see if one of the application schools is a good fit than have her do 5th grade at Latin. I am not sure she's ready to switch classes so many times a day and handle so many teachers' personalities and requirements. She is still really an elementary schooler and not a middle schooler. In fact, that's our major qualm with ITS--they start middle at 5th--and one of the reasons that Shining Stars, which goes through 6th, is appealing. |
