SWS seems like it would not be convenient to you at all. Have you tried the commute?

If we got into SWS I think we'd move to the Hill and switch to Catholic school for middle/high. But, yes, we've tried the commute (I work near the Hill, so it's not super horrible and we commute on bikes, which makes it slightly less daunting).

You would rather commute to another school than be in a swing space? Aren't they providing busing?

PP here--yes, because I don't want my small child on a school bus across town during rush hour, it's hard to know how this will impact Hyde as a community/neighborhood school, and I've heard that the swing space isn't good. If DD was already a student there, maybe I'd feel differently. . . .They have been planning these renovations since at least 2011, and that itself has impacted the school--I know in-bounds families who haven't tried the lottery for Hyde or sent their kids there because of the allegedly impending renovations for years now.

I get and understand the part about the cross-town bus for a 3 year old, good point. Regarding the space, I think preschoolers are a lot more resilient that we give them credit for. They don't realize the space deficiencies like we do.

They aren't school buses, and they have separate ones for the ECE children with designated aides.

In that case, SWS is a good school and Capitol Hill is a great place to live. Have you considered adding Two Rivers to your list?

I considered Two Rivers, but lack of outdoor space killed it for me.

Capitol Hill Montessori would make sense...

I never had a chance to visit... how do they compare to Lee and SS?

They go through 8th, which could be a pro or con for you. I don't know how test scores compare and considering how new the charters are and how small they all are, I wouldn't care too much. But if you're willing to move to the Hill and you care about Montessori (or are at least open to it) and you commute by bike and you have less than 12 choices, why not list it?

If DD was already a student there, you wouldn't feel differently. Nobody is happy at Hyde-Addison.

Where do you live? Two Rivers Young has great outdoor space.
