Two Rivers 4th

Appletree LP

Miner IB

I would add JOW to this list above Appletree.

Appletree LP is literally 1.5 blocks from my house and our friends have had great experiences there. JOW seems to be slightly better than Miner, but Miner is *way* more convenient, so I'd rather go with the easier logistics/support for my neighborhood school over slightly better (whatever that even means in the PK context). FWIW I wouldn't send my kid to either of them past PK, so that aspect doesn't matter (whereas that drives the first three selections, which I'd love to lock down for all of ES and/or MS). Vaguely debating putting Logan over Appletree, but I'm not convinced we want Montessori past K/1st anyway.

Since we aren't using the whole list, we are actually slotting Maury and Brent (in that order) between SWS and Two Rivers, knowing that we have 0 chance at either of them.

We're at an EOTP school now that our kid really dislikes, but we aren't able to move out of DC for one more year. After that, we'd be happy to stay in the District or to move to the suburbs depending on the lottery. She has some special needs, and is on the immature side. She's a pretty average student and BASIS would not be a good fit.

Haynes?

Pretty random, but as I said, we will skip this year since don't really want DC going to a school for a year and then switch. IB is Janney.
We needed 12, so some might be random. Picked them just because we've heard of them.
SS is pretty far, but I used to go to Hyattsville/ Riverdale all the time through the city.

Shepherd is full every year with in bounds. 3 classes. But obviously it can't hurt to rank them first since they'll at least waitlist you. But if you like ITS or CMS they both go through 8th.

This list seems random too. Montessori or Latin? Middle only versus HS track? Try to look more long term if you can. Time flies by.

I am IB for Shepherd. Shepherd only has two PK3 classes and everyone IB got in this year in addition to 1-2 OOB. Principal has said she will do everything she can do get all IB in.

Is it worth listing Lafayette or janney if OOB for pk3?

Neither school has PK3. They start at PK4.

Our chances are probably 0, but I wanted DH to see how the lottery works. All other schools are too far and I have an option of staying home 1-3 more years.

What is Thomas E?

Not the OP, but there is a Thomas Elementary EOTR near the Minnesota Ave Metro. If that's what is meant by "Thomas E" on the list above, this list just won the gold medal for random. Or do you think she meant Thomson?

No I get it - they have options to move a year from now and need a good place for a year. If it works out long term - great they can stay, if not no big deal.

Seaton (IB)

Will likely get into Seaton because we're IB, which we'd be perfectly happy with.

We're willing to move for middle school, so going through 8th or 12th is a plus but not a requirement. We're balancing some competing things that we/our kid would like: convenient commute to either our house or jobs, path past 5th grade, no uniform, decent academics, outdoor space and time, racial diversity within the upper grades, small school/classes, special ed services, having friends there, and more. No one school has all of that. So it is a pretty unusual list, but one where each school has something better than our kid's current school and we are optimistic about getting in someplace.

Where do you live?

This list is intereesting. How do you go from Ross (Is that your IB, otherwise you have NO chance and really almost no chance even if you are IB). to Bruce Monroe third on the list? Talk about two extremes and I say that as a BM parent who will be playing lottery again.
