What is your honest opinion on undocumented immigrants?

The problem with your 'argument' is simple, most of the labor jobs won't be filled by Americans even at good wages. Companies that require skilled craftsman and in the absence of trained people then advertise for apprentices often find no takers and those they do sign on leave. As a whole the work ethic of the unskilled and under educated, no American should be uneducated, isn't there. Nor is there much interest.

Then the wage must rise. Everything has a price. And if a job has no interest as the current advertised price (wage), then the price (the wage must rise). This isn't rocket science

Wrong. We have the richest poor people in the world and a fairly large portion of them are content. They are not going to go out and work on a road crew, do roofing, welding, work on farms, etc. because they have no incentive and many have no work ethic. The undocumented, they work to survive and provide for their families. Immigrants to our nation over the past 200 years worked to improve their lives and were a vital part of our growth. Now, we need millions sneaking in because we have millions unwilling to work at jobs that would require discipline and sacrifice.

Maybe you are thinking of the DC area. Relatives have had all of those jobs.

That is true. I live in a rural area of the south. Very few illegal immigrants, based on numbers provided by various sources.
The locals here do all these kinds of jobs.

It raises WHOSE standard of living? Yours? Assuming you are already middle class which it sounds like you are. Because American unskilled uneducated workers aren't the ones buying the cheap crap that raises YOUR standard of living. They cant afford it. (And it is all crap!) Maybe what our consumerist greedy country needs is less "cheap" stuff that we dispose of quickly anyway and more better paying jobs to raise the standard of living for ALL AMERICANS?

And quit relying on what is essentially slave labor from under the table illegal workers who are willing to work for pennies and send most of it back home to their countries anyway doing very little for our economy while draining us of resources. Immigration is a must but illegal immigration only benifits the corporations with cheap slave labor and greedy consumerist Americans that want their cheap crap no matter whose back it breaks.

PP, here. Yellow Nectarines are $1.99/lb at Whole Foods this week. How much would the be if native born Americans were picking them?

I would prefer a much more flexible immigration system, so everyone who comes here would be documented.

This cost has to be offset by the costs associated with our support of illegals healthcare (ER rooms) which is shared, they failure of them to pay taxes at a high participation rate, the strain on the school system (I live in AZ and we have to have dedicated English language tutors in all elementary schools), etc. Quite frankly I would be fine with a guest worker program where migrants who worked in the agriculture industry were carefully screened, documented, and tracked on a come and go basis (seasonal). This type of program could be implemented now, forcing those without such documentation to leave due to the inability to work.

Who is blocking ANY immigration bill? The democrats have agreed to border control after giving legal status to those who are already here. But the GOP somehow thinks they can deport everyone of them without any DIRECT COST of finding them, separating them from their family, taking them through the courts and finally deporting them. Then if you include the Indirect costs of the effect of losing over 10 Million over night(relatively short time frame) on the economy, loss of tax revenue etc. then it gets prohibitively expensive.

So get legal status to those already here, strengthen the border, implement E-verify, Have a BIG DOOR immigration policy that lets agriculture workers(on seasonal basis), tech workers or anyone the economy needs. Remember AS THE BABY BOOMERS retire we need more immigrants to pay for their Social security and Medicare. USA is the only developed country that has a very favorable economic future with a growing population due to its immigration policy. Europe is having all the economic trouble as its population ages and a declining population to pay for their benefits as they retire.

I am fine with immigration if people came from a variety of places and came legally. Reform from that end,not by giving special treatment to those who break the laws.

What do you mean by “legal status?” I am not opposed to “legal status” as long as it doesn’t mean citizenship.
I am very much opposed to giving citizenship to those that came illegally when we have millions waiting in line to do it the right way.

This is so true. I know of family members, all white, I am shamed to say, that are in Appalachia that dont do any job and get into drug habits. I have friends running Farms who complain they are short of workers in the farm and they either need to close the farm or get hispanics to keep the farm running. All this when teenagers do nothing and their parents are on welfare and RANT AT the blacks on welfare when they are welfare users themselves. Some people I know are still delivering Pizzas in their 40s and doing odd jobs. Atleast the so called il-legal immigrants are trying to feed their family with any means of work they can get.

Get them legal status, as in they can legally find work and pay taxes(not citizenship), and put them at the end of the queue(BEHIND all the legal immigrants) for getting permanent residency. If you have a large population that are in limbo land(not citizens or PRs, not visa holders but "special status") thats not good and it makes no difference since it will take them decades to become citizens anyways if they are behind everyone.

Enforce existing law that makes it illegal for any business or person to hire an illegal. Really make it painful. Do nothing else. Wait five years. Now address the issue with the greatly reduced numbers.

Exactly the argument the last time we had amnesty and now we have 11 million (or more) illegal immigrants. Legalizing people who sneak simply incentivizes people to sneak in. But I guess "it will be different this time" right? We don't need to change immigration; we already let 1 MILLION people a year immigrate here legally; what we need is to actually enforce our laws and start deporting the millions of people who are here illegally. We don't need immigration reform; we need deportation reform.

When your ancestors came if the native Americans had done what you suggest, we need not discuss this issue now. Maybe we should have done what you suggest when the Irish came here due to potato famine and sent them back to hunger and eath. Maybe the Italians running away from war should have been sent back to war and death. Before 1924, if you are white and if you land on the US shores you were given residency, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Do you know had that not been done, many of the ancestors of people like you wouldn't have come here and this would have been a better place. Such in-sensitivity to human suffering. Go and live for 1 week in places where these people come from. You sit in a comfortable chair and talk as if you are god AND YOU KNOW what to do.

Do you know that there could be kids who are young and going to school, there could be families who have nothing to go back to where they came from? There could be families that have sick kids who will lose their lives if they go back to a place with less or no access to medical care. There are MANY thousands of WAR Veterans who fought for the USA. There are students who could be the next Sergei Brin(if you know who he is), the next Steve Jobs(Lebanese by birth) etc etc.

Arm chair generals CAN ONLY RANT and SHOUT. You are not educated to think about the cause and effects. Thats why you are nowhere near power. Because it is not a black or white issue. It is a costly affair and NO POLITICIAN IN AMERICA including TRUMP CAN or WILL do it. Trump is conning a segment for votes, thats about it. He will back off saying "Believe me It is yugely expensive to send them back, how about we be NICE to them and give them legal status without citizenship". If it could have been done, Reagan would have done it, and both Bushes would have. But none of them were for deportation. WHY NOT? Because to make decisions that have consequences is EASY TO SHOUT but not easy to make at a very high cost to this country.

People who cheat on immigration make it much harder for people who are trying to immigrate using legal methods. What kind of character does it show to enter a country illegally, work here illegally, get benefits you are not entitled to, and just basically be a burden to the country? As for refugees, by definition, they are undocumented -- they are fleeing a war. So easy to join in and get through the gate. Its a wide open pathway -- you can't blame a terrorist for walking through it. Its like leaving the keys in the car.

Nobody is suggesting open borders, not even democrats. There is no way to deport so many without consequences. So strengthen the borders, implement E-verify going forward. Give legal status without citizenship for those who are already here. Those in government have limitations and responsibilities that include political, financial etc. You are a free agent and your words AND ACTIONS have ZERO IMPACT or CONSEQUENCES.
