It does. Remember, DC metro area is chock full of transplants importing their racists attitudes from Boston, Selma, Macon, Cleveland, etc. |
When I was new to DC I took my nephew on the metro on a busy day. As soon as he stepped into the car, the doors closed. I couldn't believe it. I didn't know what to do. I ran to the booth and the woman was completely unconcerned. He was ten years old. I just imagined him ending up somewhere terrible. I am sure I was hysterical. She said an employee would find him and speak with him. Nothing like that happened. A kind young man and his sister stayed with my nephew and had him call me when they got off at the intended spot and all went well because of a good samaritan. However, the metro employee's only concern was that I STFU. I didn't yell or anything like that but I'm sure I was hysterical. I'm sure I sound like an idiot and the incident would not have happened save my utter stupidity but it did happen and no one helped, offered empathy or even accepted that I was a human being expressing emotion in her presence. I absolutely believe this story. I would also believe a story about a really kind employee but there are definitely metro employees who are inept and indifferent. |
As mentioned up thread, I've not had your experience with the subway attendees. And, I am not discounting your story. Your last sentence however puzzles me. Where do you work, where there are definitely no inept or indifferent employees? |
Nobody who grew up in the DC area has racist attitudes? Only people who moved here from elsewhere? |
I have never worked at a workplace that didn't have inept or indifferent employees. (I have never worked at Metro.) Where do you work? Are there no inept and indifferent employees therer? |
New poster here. Absolutely NOTHING like metro. Sleeping on the job? Termination. Bring rude? No. Ignoring customers? Termination. Laughing at someone who would run into reception needing help? So unfathomable that I can't even comment. Not even remotely a possibility in my corporate culture. |
Do where do you work? You get to sleep on the job and ignore customers? You are able to be rude to customers? Sometimed i want to chew our customers out or just ignore everyone for the day. How do i apply to work with you? How do you remain in business or.are you funded by taxpayers? |
The only place you've encountered people who are rude to customers is at Metro? I want to live in your world. |
There are levels of inept and Metro goes for the gold. I'm really struggling to find something that compares. And again, where do you work that the above is culturally acceptable? I really could use a few naps. |
I've never encountered a rude Metro employee. |
Yeah, sure. |
It does. Which is why, as a black person, I can never truly trust and be comfortable with a white person. This thread is full of so-called colorblind liberals. |
| I am a person of color and there is no denying that the metro workers are surly, unhelpful, and not very good at their jobs. It's gotten to the point where it is a safety issue. |
It's certainly full of people typing racist things, but I don't know what their politics are. |
Plenty of posters on this thread actually have denied it. As for their competence on their job -- how are you qualified to assess that? |
